Testing a DIY four 100W LED lighting rig. Quick Clear collodion on half plate aluminum, f5.6 at 12sec with the lights about 1.5m from the subject.Cell phone pic of the plate. Pretty crappy plate, that lens is very soft wide open and lots of artifacts on the plate.

The chemistry is pretty finicky, I'm not sure you could use dyes initially. You can modify the color somewhat by altering the nitrate concentration in the developer and they type of fixer used.
Colored ambrotypes were common. The plate was hand painted after drying and varnishing.
