Heh, and then there was the "Mysteriosity" mechanic they introduced. It was nice when it worked in your favor, but man you could get hosed when it decided it didn't like you...
I'm a terminal level grinder and items hound. I'd always disregard the plot as long as possible to level up. Came in handy on the boss battles =^^=
