Rest in Peace, Granny J2
If you keep an eye on news on cetaceans, more likely you already know this. Center for Whale Research announced that an icon of Souther Resident orcas community - Granny J2, who is presumed to be the oldest killer whale, is missing and more likely passed away. CWR has a page dedicated to Granny, you can read it here: http://www.whaleresearch.com/j2
Granny is not the only one Southern Resident orca we’ve lost in the past 12 months. We musn’t forget about J28 Polaris and J54 Dipper, L95 Nigel, J34 Doublestuf, J55, J14 Samish and an unidentified calf.
There are ways to help SRKWs. Check the list below, which I copied from the post missmariemariana did before (I hope you don’t mind!):
- Adopt a Southern Resident killer whale: http://whalemuseum.org/collections/adopt-an-orca
- Contact Politicians: https://srkwcsi.org/take-action/let.....o-politicians/
- Tell the Columbia river System Operations to breach the lower Snake River dams: http://www.crso.info
- What can you personally do? http://westseattleblog.com/2016/12/.....esident-orcas/
