Two years later, I begin the year anew once more with an illustration dedicated to the cause. Two years ago, it was the discipline of a miscreant and the questioning of what was being done. Today, it's a promotion of our stand against those who would corrupt our society!
When I first started this, I didn't know what "ADA Grunts" would look like. First I was going with a sort of simplified Knight Templar-y sort of feel, inspired by the ones in Ogre Battle 64. But as I've been watching a friend play Pokemon: Black 2 in recent times, I really enjoyed the outfits Team Plasma had. So I revamped my sketch, and came up with a mixture of the two outfits Team Plasma wore in the first and second games. Mostly the second, but I thought the hood would be a good "Grunt" sort of thing for them. Not as prestigious as a helmet. Like mine!
I don't do visually heavy works like this too often, especially in the form of posters. I found a really good propaganda poster that was suitable for what I was working with, and referred to that as I set this one up. I also referred to it for visual additions here and there, such as the cloudy background I made with "Friction" under "Decoration", and then the misc bars I have in a few spots. It could probably be better and more efficient, but for a first go, it came out not too bad in my opinion.
Decided to try cel-shading again too. I think I'm kinda sorta getting the hang of it. Ish.
A very fun project, especially in regards to revisiting the Ardent Determinants Alliance once more! Plus I haven't drawn Jeso in a while! It was about time I did. While I could use this opportunity to go into their backstory, I still need to get it all figured out and concrete. That, and I hope to one day explore its formation in "Striving to Be More."
I have the music "One Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy 7 to thank for inspiring me to revisit ADA. Many years ago, I discovered it while reading the Wotch webcomic, right when I got to the chapter involving D.O.L.L.Y., a militaristic group of women who are trying to rid the world of men, if I remember correctly. In particular, there is ONE part...ONE part...of One Winged Angel that REALLY deeply satisfies me with a vicious march of raw determination and ardour. If you know me and my love for minor chords, it should be quite clear which part that iiiiiissssssss~~~~~
P.S. "Battle!Lyssandre - Pokemon X & Y" is really pretty darn cool! It suits my jam very nicely! Listened to it a good number of times while working on this project.
