So, when I came across her in Sun version, I was kinda like "mmm...what?". I thought the actual body/hair/palette was super awesome, but the whole golf theme seemed...weird to me. I understand how it ties with flying types, but the wardrobe specifically, she looked very restricted. I figured that a flying type trainer from a tropical island would look much more breezy and free, liberated.
So I kept her palette, tried to keep the general texture/color placement as it was on the old outfit, but gave her a more "tropical" theme with a wing design incorporated.
Winona is one of my fav gym leaders and I just have this mental image of flying type leaders/elite 4 members looking free and liberated. Kahili's stiffness, composure, and restraint makes me think of her as a weird choice for a flying type trainer.

I love the redesign, it's very nice, but the whole reason she doesn't fit with the 'easy breezy' type of Alola is because she's not Alolan by birth. Her dad owns one of the hotels on one of the islands and he comments on how she'd breezed through the island challenges after they'd moved to Alola. Or something along those lines, I can't remember and my DS isn't handy to read back up on it.
On top of that, there's a golf course near the Hano Grand Resort that's inaccessible and completely cut out of the game, so it's likely she was meant to be a trial captain of some sort and they simply had to axe her trial to rush to the deadline. It's another one of those things about S/M that feels missing.
P much. I mean, I love the game, but between the little missing bits and the Pokemon animations that the dataminers extracted, plus all the framerate dips, I'm pretty much convinced that Gamefreak's going to do some Stars Switch version with all the cut stuff added back in, Emerald-style.
I do like the redesign a lot, on-topic, eheheh. The orange-blue contrast is a really nice eyecatch.

I'd be okay with that. I love the game too, but I beat the story (and post story) and was like, "is...is that it?" I had SUPER high expectations because I was like "OH WOW THEY DITCHED THE GYM LEADER SYSTEM" and "OOOOH NO MORE HM YAAAAS"
But that was pretty much it. I though it'd have something like the Sevii Islands in FRLG, or more Alolan Forms that they didn't annouce, maybe something like the Pokeathlon. I felt they kinda hyped up a lot but carried through with the bare minimum.
They made the professor attractive to distract us.
