For the past month I've been fooling with a Wacom Mobile Studio. I'd dithered on whether or not I was going to keep it (it's heavy! and really needs a kickstand! but unlike the Surface 4 it works with Illustrator!); the return window ran out this week, so I guess that's decided.
So I drew the watery genie that hangs out in my computers and helps me draw, all dressed up in this device. (Actually this is the second time I've done this for the Mobile Studio; I didn't like the first one so I did it again.)
That thing floating next to her head is a Twiddler chording keyboard, which I'm using to do keyboard shortcuts. It's a crucial component of making "serious pro art tools on a tablet" work, IMHO.
Drawn entirely on the Mobile Studio, using the Twiddler for pretty much all keyboard shortcuts and layer naming, in about 2.5h.

I just recently purchased a SpacePilot Pro for the 3d work I do. It makes navigating in a 3d environment an utter dream. I'm told these things do wonders for digital artists as well, and they have just the 'puck' in a wireless form, that allows you 6 degrees of movement which makes panning, zooming, rotating the canvas your working in instant and fluid /while/ your still drawing.

Might go well with the new toy.

Hmm! Looks cute but I don't think it's really solving any problems for me - moving around the canvas is not a real problem when I've got multiple hotkeys for zoom levels plus pinch/drag gestures, plus my main goal for this tablet is "magic sketchbook that lets me use Illustrator on the plane or bus" and that looks pretty desk-bound.
I'm very much a one hand on stylus, one on keyboard kind of artist, and the Twiddler is letting my left hand keep on hitting around sixty keyboard commands while I draw. Yes, sixty: http://egypt.urnash.com/blog/2017/0.....rator-control/
It's slower than a keyboard right now, but getting faster, and even already speeding some things up by making it easier to create a couple macros for multi-key sequences I do constantly.

Ah, the puck device I suspect while being wireless, is more for cafe's and libraries and such where you're 'mobile' but still on a solid surface. But, I suppose that's the question "What do you do more, shortcuts or movement?" With 3d it's often times more movement, than it is shortcuts. It's good that you're able to find just the right tools/peripherals to do the work with the least amount of fuss. I'm finding working completely from a computer, the more I spend having to futz with some setting or position or peripheral that doesn't work right, the less I want to do the work. Often when working on meatspace stuff, if it doesn't fit or work right, you can simply make your own tool. A bit harder when it comes to computers.

Is what I'm using, which combines both both the 6 DoF puck and lots of programmable function keys, but decidedly is not for use on the bus. I'm sure soon enough you'll have the option to get your wetware interface installed and soon you'll just be staring off into seemingly nothing, tapping a little fob in your hand. :}
