Just a crackbrained idea I had some time ago - coincidentally, there was an actual amber inclusion of a dinosaur discovered not much later.

I guess they must've ran head first into one of them giant deciduous trees and got crystallized in its sap.

I wonder how much amber is selling on the market right now (let alone preserved prehistoric creatures)...

It was more likely to be an araucaria.
A lot, actually. Amber is commercially mined in several places (Sambia, Dominican Republic and whatever the Burmese locality is called) and they look out for pieces with inclusions, as they generate more money.

Yeah, had a whole dinosaur tail complete with plumage and they could even identify coloration. A true remarkable find.

Not really, since the German name for amber is essentially 'burning stone'. A fact I find interesting is that bacteria spores found in bees conserved in Dominican amber were successfully reactivated.
