He seems to be stuck in a weird place where he enjoys the concept on its own, but doesn't like some of the knock-on effects it can have for a setting if size-shifting is so easily available. Which is something I can kinda understand, but he puts a way heavier importance on it than I do. I mean, my main OC sells growth potions, so obviously it's not that big a deal to me. But it means he ends up with all these AU things where he can play around with ideas he likes without ruining the main universe he's got going on.
