in fact its tradition for me to lose weight over xmas.

this year i lost 14 poudns in 5 days. whoo. i think we had the same thing.

was it a fluey cold thing packed up with an ear infection?

No. It was worshipping the porcelain throne for the first 12 hours and feeling like a physical wreck for several days afterwards. Either way both suck.
