Another long day, another slice bloodily cut from a commission in progress. If you've gone househunting recently, you'll know I'm not exaggerating by much.

I can top that, when house hunting I saw a house that someone had already tried to burn down. It was being listed as 'nearly move-in condition, minor work in kitchen required."
Walking in, it looked like haunted house decor, with odd patterns on the wall and ceiling, until you realized you were looking at the smoke damage from the fire. the back half of the house was practically charcoal. we never looked at the second floor or garden apartment, we weren't sure the building would take the weight. This was the realter's first time in this property and she was appologizing profusely.
In our estimate, the building was a complete knock-down, despite looking good from the street.

we went to see one that didn't have a basement listed, we got there and noticed the floor was sagging, after looking around for awhile we saw a book shelf that was left behind, moved it, and low and behold a basement door!
when we opened it the whole thing was filled with water all the way up to the floor boards!
even the realtor was surprised!

Yeah, I love how people who have no business dealing with houses now try to "flip" houses. Sub-standard work and materials and sell it before the new owners notice the issues. Even if you get an inspector, some folks do quite a number hiding the damage.
Even with my house, I find something new every time I go to improve something. It didn't help that one of the previous owners was a police officer and therefore never got a permit for changes he did, and it was never inspected.
