As the title says a commission from Dain unicorn of himself. Very nice character, nothing like a gorgeous buckskin unicorn ^^
As for the picture itself, I tried, used a ref and everything, but I don't think it's my best work >.>

I would say the only thing that doens't look right is the sword.. It looks much to small for a longsword, and it shows with how he's holding it. :P Otherwise, I think it's fantastic, espically how he's looking at the viewer- there is a lot of tension, like a battle is about the break out.
its not a longsword that particular one is called a scimitar by its design, but it does have a double edge in the shape of a baselaird though the tip is upturned on one side, and unlike a baselaird, yours has no knuckle guard. But it is posible that it is a court sword, a ceremonial blade worn at court.
*smiles at the image*
I've been wondering when I'd see it here. ->: )
For starters the sword is based on a "hand and a half" sword, and is being held outward at an angle of about 40-45 degrees or so.
It doesn't show too well, but the right hoof is in front of the left one a little, and this is a swordfighting pose that offers many, many options, from parry to attack, all within a step from this pose.
Its a readiness of sorts and so the head down and eyeing you look is most appropreate.
*grins again*
Yes, Brushfire, I really like it. However if you want to discount me another commission to make up for the "bad artist feelings" you speak of, I'd be happy to oblige when I can afford to pay you what you deserve for your work.
(IRL, I know several artist, even published ones, and they are rarely happy with their own peieces either)

yah I forgot I finished it, then I found it on my computer and was like 'why isn't this online'
I think most of the reason I don't think this was my best work was because since I started working on this picture I've improved with my art, and I've been feeling critical of my slightly older stuff. I remember when I originally drew this I thought it was awesome :P
as for another commission, I'm not taking anymore for a while, things are too busy IRL for me to keep up.
anyway, I'm happy you like it, that is after all the most important thing :)
