I've got a problem with how I design my characters....that is to say I don't really put in any forethought and kinda just draw until I end up with something I consider passable. In this case it did not turn out very well. He looks terrible. Anatomy is terrible. Shading is terrible. Everything. Terrible.
But! On the upside I do at least have an actual reference image for Artyom now that I can build off of.
And that's Progress.
And Progress is always good, every cloud has a silver lining and all that good stuff.
Artyom Solotov is the Chief Medical Officer aboard a Tsarist research submarine operating in the south pacific on the verge of WW1 Circa 207X in a world where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was never assassinated, The Soviet Union was never formed, Hitler never came to power, and where global culture has stagnated in a state of Imperialism while technology marches forward. Born to a wealthy and influential family on the Tsarist mainland his parents were mortified when he volunteered for service aboard a vessel where he would be rubbing shoulders with wet-ear blue collar workers from the socialist leaning coastlines, but Artyom would hear none of it. He had to go where his skills could do some real good for the world, and that meant going out and operating in the field where his research could bear fruit.
Winds up developing something of an infatuation on the submarine's engineer which eventually blossoms into something more......
I'm working on more art that actually incorporates the Imperial/Diesel punk and raygun gothic aesthetic of the universe. This one get's close. but fails to hit the mark. and generally looks terrible as well.
Time to cleanse the pallet of this failure with another sharkgirl.....
