Here’s my art summary. Better late than never right?
Looking back at 2016 it was a rough year. However it was a nice year for art in most fields. I made some great leaps here and there. There were quite a few firsts as well as bringing back some old techniques; I considered a part of my style that faded away I’d like to bring back.
I do wish I could of gotten more fully finished paintings; however I am still very happy. Especially since I managed to get something done even if it was just a simple sketch every month.
This year I really worked on anatomy and experimented with different species and I feel like it shows pretty well in this. I also managed to finally come up with a style for ref sheets I’m really happy with. Still need to work some kinks out but, it’s a massive improvement.
Then toward July I started going back to my roots so to speak and brought back some old techniques I used to use a lot in my style that kinda faded away for a while. I feel by doing that it drastically improved my artwork toward the second half at least from my perspective.
In September I ended up drawing one of my favorite badges yet. A long time movie fan and Creepshow fan it was a joy to make a badge inspired by it. There were a few pieces I enjoyed working on through September and October. It was nice to make some fun handpaws, props and get most of Takeshi’s bodysuit completed. I feel like if I hadn’t of gotten injured at the start of the month I would of gotten way more done.
November was a slow month for me. I wasn’t motivated and I was struggling with my injury then the pain medication that was prescribed kinda put me to sleep here and there. I don’t know how but, somehow I managed to take a sketch I had started at the end of Oct/beginning of the month and inked it. I’m really glad I did one it allowed me to keep true to my resolution and 2 I’m really happy with it and I loved drawing the new character as a feral. I don’t draw them often and honestly hadn’t really drawn any in a good long time.
I feel like in December like I seem to usually do I regained momentum and got quite a bit drawn out however I had lost access to photoshop so I had quite a few things sketched but, I couldn’t progress any further with them.
It was a good year. There were challenges and quite a few ups and downs but, overall there was good. Now that it’s 2017 I have goals to try and further improve my artwork and evolve my style. I want to get more pieces completed so it’ll be a challenge to choose come the end of the year but, I still want to focus more on quality. I’m planning to draw a lot more things because I want to and avoid stressing about it. I’m going to try and avoid my health problems getting in the way and try to strive to new heights. My goal is to make this the best year for art in it’s many forms. So far based off what I’ve accomplished on my own I’m feeling like this is going to be a very good obtainable goal. I know it’s just January but, I’m going to try to keep the momentum going and make it a great year.
