More than anything, he wanted the warmth of home. It pulled him to the back door where he would stare in expectantly, but no offer can be taken. Offers are poisoned with ulterior motives. More than anything, he wanted someone to chase his shadows away, but no one can save him from his own darkness. Too many years that his shadows whispered secrets of survival and now they have bonded to him. One misstep, too much wrath, and the shadows whisper "run!" Just another skittish stray, forget him, a feral cat will never be loyal enough.

Awww poor baby. My kitty was abandoned at one point and lived as a stray. She occasionally rushes the door and starts to run off. Poor thing wants the freedom as well as the loving home.

Aw, I'm glad she does have a warm home with you! I've known a few cats that are the same way, (started as an outside cat/feral/abandoned), and every now and then still make a mad dash to the door. It's a strange pull, on the one hand wanting prosperity, yet on the other hand almost needing those moments where survival reigns.

I used to be this cat, then some very patient and loving people taught me that real freedom is as much about being able to choose to curl up against someone in the warmth as it is being able to choose to wander the wilds alone.
I used to think freedom was not being attached to anyone and never let my guard down, but freedom can also be choosing to love and care and trust, and knowing that after one has wandered the wilds alone, there is always a safe place to return to.

I love this one so much. It reminds me how far I've come, and how far I still have to go.
