Ekke tossed and turned as he lay in his bed. His dreams plagued by dark shadows and nightmares, disturbing him from a peaceful slumber. After several more minutes of that, he woke up screaming; his body in a cold sweat as he was panting heavy.
“Another...nightmare.” He panted as the lights in his room turned on.
“Ekke you okay!?” Blue said as he stood in the door frame.” I heard you screaming, what happened dood?” he walked over and sat on your bed.
“I um..had another nightmare.” Ekke sighed sadly as he looked down.
“Another? You mean you been plagued by them before?” He watched Ekke slowly shake his head up and down in a yes motion. “How long have these been going on?”
“About, about a week.” Ekke answered softly.
“A WEEK!?” Blue accidentally shouted in his shock, “Well, that DOES explain why you were kinda lacking energy and seemed so tired lately. Here I thought it was just form your job.”
"Well that is kinda a reason. Ever since I took on more hours and shifts, I have been a lot more stressed out lately.”
“Dood, I know exactly how you feel. I know the burden of being overwhelmed with stress. The trick is just finding a way to deal and handle with it.”
“How do you handle it?” He asked, lifting his head up to look at Blue for his answer.
“Video games mostly.”
“Meh, I played all my games to death.” he sighed again.
“Well you could play my games I go so…” Blue stopped and chuckled nervously as he got a death glare, “okay okay it was just a joke, I know you are not a fan of indie games.” he chuckled nervously. “What about something else, um, baking! You like to bake, right?”
“I could do that, however to do it so often would cost a bit of money.”
‘Well, true, something else then, Yoga?” Blue asked
“I am not that flexible.”
“Herbal tea?”
“Bleh, too bland. I Didn’t care for it after you offered last time.”
“Oh right, um, what about aromatherapy and a hot bath?” Blue asked as that idea suddenly struck him.
“Um, that sounds just as expensive as the baking idea.” Ekke groaned.
“It doesn't have to be. All you really need to do is go to the store and pick up a scented candle to help you relax.” Blue said happily.
Ekke seemed confused, “Is, is that really it?”
“Well, it’s the best we can do on our budget right now. If it works, it works. If it doesn't work, well we tried.” he sighed, “you are off tomorrow, right? It would be a good time to get to the store, get a candle, come home and try it out.”
“Makes sense I suppose.” Ekke said and flopped back on his bed “i am gonna try to sleep.” he sighed, “sorry if I woke you.”
“Woke me? Um dood I was already up.” he shrugged.
“You were? What time is it?” Ekke asked confused.
Blue took out his phone and checked the time “2:30AM.” he answered.
“Why? How are you still up so late?” Ekke said surprised
Blue just shrugged again “I’m off tomorrow as well. I’ll probably be up for another 30 mins. Pleasant dreams man.” Blue got up and turned to leave.
Ekke watched his friend leave, still surprised “You are such a night owl.” he sighed again and turned away to try and sleep as Blue turned off the lights.
“Who, who!” Blue chuckled as he closed the door, and left you alone in the dark to sleep.
It was a rather rough night for Ekke, but he was able to find some sleep. Slowly the dawn came and daylight started to fill his room. Several hours later, Ekke’s eyes slowly opened as he woke up.
“What a night.” he groaned as he lay there and stared up at the ceiling. “What time is it?” Ekke sighed and reached for his phone. Clicking the top button, the time, “8;30 AM“ was displayed. “Might as well get up now, I doubt I will get any more sleep today.” Ekke gave another sigh as he threw off his sheets and blanket. “Might as well get the coffee brewing.” He slowly got out of bed and then gave a few stretches.
After giving his eyes a few rubs, he got his glasses on and left the room. Walking past Blue’s closed door. “Wonder how long he is gonna sleep for? Night owl, not an early bird.” Ekke gave a small chuckle as he went into the kitchen, had gotten the coffee brewing and helped himself to a bowl of cereal.
“So then, Scented candles.” Ekke pondered between bites of cereal. Using his phone he searched for a place that sold candles. To his amazement, there was a place right in the mall that specializes in those. “Awesome, and not too far.” Ekke finished his cereal, disposed the bowl in the sink, and helped himself to a quick cup of coffee. ‘Man that helped.” He sighed and gave another stretch.
Ekke went about the rest of his morning routine: showering, shaving, and getting dressed in regular clothing. Feeling a bit more refreshed from his bad night sleep, he grabbed his keys and headed for the door. The sound of a ringing phone stopped him in his track. Ekke checked his phone and saw it was not him. He turned to see it came from behind Blue’s closed door “Must be his alarm?” Ekke shrugged before leaving ad locking the door behind him.
A quick 15 minute drive brought Ekke to the mall, it was just after it opened so it was not too crowded. “Now then where is this shop?” Ekke said as he went and checked the mall’s directory “I am here and the shop is...on the other side.” he sighed, “always happens to me.” With a small sigh, he walked through the mall, passing various shops along the way.
“Well, that took forever.” he sighed as he finally got in front of the store, “Wicker Wonderland, that’s kinda...lame.” He shook his head in disbelief. The aroma of dozens, and dozens of candles was detectable from the entrance alone. “Hope I don't spend too much time here, it’s a bit overloading on the senses.” he coughed bit and walked inside.
“Hello can I help you?” A worker asked as he walked around .
“Oh just browsing.” Ekke quickly said as he kept looking past all the candles of various shapes, colors and sizes.
Ekke was a bit surprised at the prices for the items, they seemed to be a bit higher then he thought for a scented candle. “Weid they cost so much for some scented wax.” he sighed again and shook his head. As he looked over, a display caught his eye. “CLEARANCE” in bold letters was hung on a shelf with items underneath. “That seems more my price range.” he said and went to take a look.
The pickings were rather slim as he looked over the items, though one of them did stick out. Reaching over he picked up a golden yellow candle, “The lost Dreemurr?” Ekke read and took a small whiff of the candle. The smell was quite pleasant, but he could not really identify the aroma. Looking it over more he saw the price was only $1. “Right up my ally.” Ekke said and went to the cashier “Just this today.” he placed the item down .
The cashier picked it up and looked it over “Ah interesting, we thought it was some sort of typo from the factory.” she rang it up, “$1.07 please.” She smiled and Ekke paid for it. She placed it in a bag, and handed it off to him “have a nice day sir.” she smiled.
Ekke smiled as he took his item “You as well.” He left the store with his item in hand. “I seriously hope this works.” Ekke hoped as he traveled back through the mall, and back to his car.
“BLUE! BLUE I’M BACK!” Ekke called out as he got home. “Blue!?” he said looking around. It seemed he was not home at the moment. “Weird, unless he is still sleeping.” He walked over, and saw his door open, but Blue was not there. “Did he go out?”
Ekke noticed a note on the counter. Picking it up, he gave it a read “Ekke, emergency at work called me in for a few hours. Will be home with pizza for lunch~Blue.”
“Oh cool, have the place to myself then.” Ekke smiled as he plopped himself down on the couch, giving a relieved sigh. He shot a look over at the bag that held the candle that was on the counter “I suppose I can give it a try.” he got back up and picked up his prize. “Now where did Blue keep those matches again?” he said and started to look around and in drawers “Ah here we go.” He picked up the pack, then went and unwrapped the candle from the plastic wrapper. “I suppose I can just do it on the couch as I play some games.” he said as he placed it on an end table, on top of a small dish.
“Let's light this candle.” he smiled and struck the match, holding the flame near the wick as it caught on fire. “Here we go.” Ekke blew out the match, ran it under some water and left it in the sink.
Ekke sat back down on the couch, and inhaled deeply, the aroma quickly starting to fill the room. “Not bad.” Ekke said as he kept breathing in the aroma. “Wow, this is...starting to work..very fast.” He said in a sleepy state. Ekke tried to hold on a bit longer but he quickly found himself heading for dreamland as he passed out on the couch.
Ekke suddenly found himself in a large field of golden flowers; the sun was shining brightly in a bright blue sky. “Am, am I dreaming?” Ekke saud quite surprised as he started to walk around. “Weird, normally my dreams are, not like this. Nor have I ever been so aware of being in a dream. Am I Lucid dreaming?” Ekke was amazed as he could feel a warm breeze blew around him, carrying the scent of the flowers.
“Man Blue was right, I definitely feel more relaxed now.” He chuckled and started to walk around in the field of flowers. “This is awesome: blue skies, yellow flower fields, not a trace of darkness anywhere!” Ekke happily cried. “Man I hope I can find the real name of the candle, I gotta get more of them.” He reached down and picked up a flower from the field, inhaling deeply. “I wonder what kind of flowers these are?” Ekke gave a small sneeze from the flower, making it burst into petals. “Whoops.” he chuckled.
Ekke reached for another flower, but stopped as he saw something on the back of his hand. “What is that?” he said and brought his hand closer to his eyes.He would notice white fur sprouting up on the back of his hand. “That’s unusual.” He reached over with his other hand to feel the white patch of fur on his hand. “It’s, so soft.” he said as he kept feeling it.
Ekke gave as gasp as before his eyes the patch of fur quickly spread out across his hand. Looking over at his other hand the fur was sprouting up starting on the fingers where he felt the other patch “Okay this is DEFINITELY not normal, even for my dreams!” Ekke said as his nails slowly grew out to a pair of white furred claws. “What just happened to my hands!?” he looked them over a few times, then flexed them a few times.
The white fur creped up his arms, causing them to feel itchy “The hell, this is just a dream! How can I Feel itchy!?” he said and went to scratch an arm. Unfortunately with his new claws, he scratched too hard and gave a cry of pain “OW! WHAT THE HECK!” he said nervously as he looked at his furry arm. Luckily it was not deep enough to draw blood. “PAIN!? But, DREAMS ARE MEANT TO BE PAINLESS!” Ekke started to panic, looking up the bright blue sky was slowly starting to get darker.
“NO! NO PLEASE NOT THAT!” He whimpered as the skies were growing darker. Ekke was starting to get discomfort as the white fur was creeping up under his shirt. “This is too much!” he said and ripped off his shirt, casting the shreds to the ground as his exposed chest and back were relieved to be free.
“I better keep my pants from this!” Ekke gasped as he looked down his furry belly. He could feel the same discomfort on his legs as those were slowly sprouting a fine coat of white fur. “Must not scratch, must not scratch.” he held his leg, and gave it a small rub to try and relieve the itch but not break the fabric.
The winds started to become more violent and were blowing more rapidly. The flowers being destroyed by the harsh breezes. “THE HELL IS GOING ON!? He panted as he looked down “Pants stayed on, um, yay?” he chuckled nervously. “If this is a dream, PLEASE let me wake up, I don't want to be stuck here as some sort of furry...thing.” He groaned as he was not sure what he was becoming
There was a cramp in Ekke’s feet, causing his next round of discomfort. “Now what?” he groaned and tried to get his shoes off. He tried to kick them off but he could feel them swelling and becoming stuck. “GET OFF! GET OFF YOU STUPID THINGS!” Ekke cried as he kept struggling to remove the footwear. Ekke cried as he tried to untie his lace to remove his shoes, however that came too late as his feet burst out of his shoes, making him cry out a bit from pain. Thunder started to boom and rumble in the darker skies.
“Oh that did NOT tickle.” he snorted and looked down at his feet. He went and brought one closer to inspect. He had apparently lost two toes as it he feet were seemingly now paw like. A similar pair of claws were on the tip of each toe. He looked on the underside and saw that there were rough pads on the bottom.
“All that is left is…” Ekke gave a nervous gulp as the fur moved up his neck. Ekke held his head in pain as something sharp was penetrating his skull. He could hear something cracking and creeping as a pair of horns were growing out of the top of his head. Slowly they curved back and were pointing behind his head. “AHHH! STOP! MAKE IT STOP!” Ekke cried as lighting was starting to flash in the sky “BLUE! BLUE PLEASE! HELP ME!” he shouted into the sky.
Tears were trickling from Ekke’s eyes from the pain. His ears started to tingled as they were growing, bigger, longe, furry, and were drooping down the side of his head. Ekke grabbed one and held it out so he could get a good view of it. He could not help it and started to burst into full tears “STOP! JUST MAKE IT STOP!” Ekke pleaded to the unknown forces
He kept crying as his face was cracking. He gave a small, painful hiss as it cracked and stretched out into some sort of muzzle. All four of his canines were growing longer and became a wicked pair of fangs. Underneath his eyes, two red markings appeared against his snow, white fur.
The pain was quickly subsiding for Ekke as he was staring forward. His old glasses falling off his head, while his eyes were turning a light green. The irises suddenly became vertical and silted.
Ekke stood blankly for a moment as he was suddenly struck with a bolt of lightning. Ekke only laughed as more and more lightning struck him, infusing him with power. A purple robe suddenly appeared on his body, with a design of winged circle, and 3 triangles; two pointing up, one pointing down.
“YES YES YES! He cried as the wind made his head fur more scruffy and wild looking. "TIME FOR THE DREAMER TO AWAKEN!” He cried as the whole world around him suddenly turned white and blacked out from existence.
Back in the real work, the newly changed goat man awoke upon the couch. All that remained of the candle was just a puddle of wax, and a burnt wick. He stood up and looked down upon his form, chuckling maniacally.
His laughter was cut off by the sound of a lock being undone and a door opening “YO EKKE!” Blue cried out as he entered the apartment “Hope you got my note man.” He smelled the air “Woah what candle did you use for your therapy?” he chuckled and locked the door behind him “I got the pizza bro, how about a good movie after..” Blue stopped as he saw the goatman before him. Dropping the pizza he took a few steps back. “Who...WHO ARE YOU!?”
The creature before him just chuckled again ‘Blue...Don't you recognize me? It’s me, your best friend…
