He touched the sword that pinned the dragon skull to the floor. In that moment, everything changed. Power from the long-dead wyrm surged from the relic, and into his body.
He knew now what had happened. The dragon was a guardian, but had fallen to evil ways. A knight rose up against his tyranny, and slew the dragon, before succumbing to his wounds.
Now as the spirits of the vanquished and vanquisher rushed into him, he saw both, and became both. He grew as the spirit of the dragon suffused every inch of his being. As scale covers skin, and muscle and bone grew to titantic size, his clothing tore away. As dragon replaced human, great wings and a powerful tail grew from his changing frame.
As the changes settled over him, his eyes shone with power. He would be the guardian now.
