Name: Fujira Ryushi / Lucy Fujira
Supervillain Name: Nightblade
DOB: 10 April 1983
POB: Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan
Age: 34
Species: Bat
Nationality: Japanese
Height: 4'9” / 145 cm
Weight: 90 lb / 41 kg
Eye Color: Black
Hair Color: Black
Physical Appearance: Like most bats, she is short and fine-boned. In her case, this translates to a dainty, almost ethereal appearance which is enhanced by her graceful movement courtesy of martial arts training. She keeps her black headfur in a pixie cut around large pointed ears. Nocturnal-adapted black eyes dominate a short muzzle full of sharp teeth.
Occupation: Professional bodyguard and assassin. Works directly for one of the crime kingpin Rigar's lieutenants as of early 2017.
Areas of Operation: Pacific Rim, based in Colmaton.
Weapons/Items: Knives, both thrown and held. Garottes, mini-crossbow, flash-grenades, a short sword when appropriate, miniature radio, triggered and/or timer mini-mines with smoke, gas, or explosive charges. Mission-specific items may be carried from time to time.
Personal Transport: Personal flight for reasonable distances (bat). Does not own a vehicle, but is capable of handling anything from motorcycles to light trucks, sail and motor small watercraft, and light aircraft.
Powers: She has the ability to transform to a black mist, which allows her to bypass certain types of detectors and to pass through any small gap which allows for the passage of gases. Her position is obvious in the light, but nearly invisible in darkness, her preferred environment in any case. She also has enhanced reflexes, and is well-trained in martial arts. Between training and standard bat hearing / sonar, her situational awareness is outstanding and she is very difficult to surprise, or even observe unnoticed.
Fighting Styles: Various forms of martial arts. She prefers the kendo school of karate. When on an assassination mission, she prefers her trademark stiletto but is not a fanatic about it and will use whatever means are most efficient.
Strengths: Powers and training, and the standard bat senses and abilities that are often overlooked by most other species. She is experienced but still young enough to be in peak physical condition. She is skilled in stealth even in her normal form, speaks English, Spanish, Japanese and Cantonese fluently, Russian, Korean and Portuguese badly, and while not a top-line hacker has a fair amount of skill with computers. She can be personally charming and has been known to seduce targets. The existence of her superpower is still a secret for the most part, which gives her a major tactical advantage in many cases – her shadow-form has weaknesses, but it's hard to plan against something one doesn't know exists.
Weaknesses: In mist-form she is blind, depending on echolocation to navigate, and is vulnerable to wind pressure (she cannot move rapidly in that form and can be blown off course or even sucked into containment by blowers. While she can move through ventilation ducts, she generally has to move -with- the airflow.) She has no armor or other defenses beyond her enhanced reflexes and partial intangibility in gas form.
Outfits: Fashionable clothing most of the time. Dark gray catsuit and mask when sneaking around on a mission.
Bio: Her father had gotten himself in trouble with the Yakuza shortly after Ryushi was born. He was allowed to pay off his debts by enrolling her in a private school which was actually a training school for what the West calls ninjas – the head of the school sensed that she had great potential and persuaded his colleagues to accept this form of repayment.
Ryushi did have an aptitude for it, and excelled in her classes, in both standard academics and the more esoteric coursework of the Academy's real purpose. This, unfortunately for her, aroused resentment from some of the other students, particularly since she was an outsider and not a member of one of the traditional clans. This resentment took the form of increasingly hazardous hazing, until one night a group of senior students stuffed her into a footlocker. She listened to them plotting what to do, and why, and her increasing fear and anger initiated her shadow power. She seeped out of the keyhole and made her way to the headmaster's quarters, flickering in and out of shadow-form to get past various traps and warning devices (a student making his way to the headmaster's quarters undetected was one way to earn honors upon graduation) and the old fox was quite pleased that she managed it four years early. He was less pleased at her reason for doing so.
The fallout from the incident led to the expulsion of several of the students who'd been involved and a disgrace for the Tichigo clan, rival to Sensei's Fujira clan. The bachelor fox insisted on adopting her into the Fujira as his own daughter and heir, though he kept her secret – very few even in Clan Fujira know that she even -has- powers, although there are rumors.
She graduated with highest honors, having set several achievement records and conducted her first successful assassination in her senior year. While adept at her profession, she was less adept at navigating the currents of intrigue and politics that dominate the upper levels of the Yakuza, and let herself be manipulated into being loaned out to an American gangster, which further isolated her from making alliances and moving up in the Yakuza hierarchy. On the plus side, she finds American culture congenial and never had much interest in Yakuza politics – unfortunately the movers and shakers, and the classmates she showed up and sometimes disgraced, are not willing to believe this, and she would find herself with serious enemies if she came back to Japan to stay, although so far no one has caused trouble for her on her occasional visits to see her adoptive father (quite possibly because that might earn her -professional- interest).
In early 2017 she meets and finds herself attracted to a bat in the course of her duties for Colmaton's R Syndicate. She doesn't know, at first, where Skydancer is actually from...
Personality: For a professional assassin, she is remarkably normal. She considers the now elderly Fujira Mikaze to be her true father – her biological parents are now dead and she has no close ties to any other blood relatives. She feels honor-bound to clan Fujira through Mikaze, and she has few compunctions about using her talents. Chenango has the good sense not use her as a knee-breaker, but reserves her for assassinations and espionage missions that require skill and her unique talents – most of the furs she has killed over the years were no loss at all to society. For her part, she respects Chenango as a cultured and intelligent individual, and one who is in his own way as honorable as she is. She considers the gangsters to be a counterbalance to government excess in some ways, and plays by her own set of rules. Life is a Game, and the hand she was dealt chose her side for her at the start. She intends to do as well for herself as she can from that starting position.
