Meet The Blue Max II...
Or, "Aw, crap, Marmel has ANOTHER one?!"
1986 300E. Wasn't PLANNING on buying one, but this waif was dumped in my lap for a ridiculously low price on New Year's Eve...
Sports new tires, rebuilt exhaust system, and the engine is now running thanks to a fried distributor rotor being found and replaced.

best i can do is a fing 1998 Dodge Caravan do too the rust here in Canada + my lack of money nd you joke about getting a buty like this as if its crap? around where I'm at people would pay thousands for a 86 anything rearwheel drive in half the condition that's in lol.i know do too i missed geting a 98 from a older fing rich lady for 800 with a. Transmission i jest cod notaford it and car was worth half the Fortune and the girl had no idea lol. Around these parts Mercedes like that or even old or wheel drive Ford and GM's just for parts self or incredibly high prices. Anything rearwheel drive here in Nova Scotia goes for a high price.
Sounds like a business opportunity as these things are every where down south since they don't rust. Since they aren't rusting to an early grave these care typically have 200,000 + miles on them and are still driving around. I have a 1993 Cadillac that I drive daily that has 188,000 miles on it and still going strong and not a speck of rust. Best $1800 car I ever bought. I have a 1989 Mercedes 300SE with probably 300K on her, no rust and still running, I just don't trust to drive it.
look around on the Internet for what vehicles sold for from parts of the United States that don't have the rust problems we have here in Nova Scotia lol.the trick is to get them across the border with out all the paperwork and you make a lot more money. Guys were doing it under the table when I went to high school bringing back 1960s and 1970s vehicles thay wood take over Canadian license plates and drive them back and usually back then the border guards never noticed they were buying vehicles for like 500 and living them back here and selling them for between 3000 and 10 grand depending on the condition and what the vehicle was.we have a operation here called Rayco that specifically brings back vehicles from the US usually guarding them out and vehicles that you see in the US fetch around $100 for scrap start out at 4000. That particular outfit doesn't sell a vehicle under 4000 no matter the condition lol i ask about a old 69 El Camino with no engine and no wheels or back bumper and they wanted over 4000 and thay had a nice running barracuda it admittedly look like a zombie car but you could literally get in it and drive it the interior was toast and had no rust and it was 4500 thay get over 2000 just for the box off of a 1980s GMC truck as an example they get nearly 2 grand for Off the same truck.
They're one of a few salvage operators that brings back vehicles from the US by the truckload. There are handful of people that bring a few back per year driving them across the border that bring vehicles that cost between 500 and 2000 they basically know which vehicles to look for and know what to look for mechanically that they'll handle the drive and bring them back here and sell them for a hefty profit.i basically never learn all the paperwork side of it and frankly I am not the most confident person to just get in a vehicle and drive a few thousand miles that I don't know the vehicle lol. ive already in more than one circumstance been stuck driving something with no breaks for several hours lol no I'm not joking when I say that. Here in Nova Scotia it's not uncommon to see a vehicle from between 2008 and 2009 rotted out to the point it's no longer legal for the road and I'm not joking just ask around. The newer the vehicle the faster they rust around these parts they started using this on chemical on the road here about six or seven years ago that is three times more corrosive on metal than salt you can't even get the stuff on your bare skin it will eat your skin if you have direct contact with it. Caustic soda or something like that I forget the exact name last I heard they're still using it because it's cheaper than salt. At one point they were mixing it with road salt but I think they're using it you're now because it's cheaper than salt or they may have stopped using it I really don't keep track. Quite a few people around here are still making payments on vehicles believe it or not that are not legal for the road because they're rusted to the point you can't get them fixed lol. You see some upper-class people going to the US and bringing back vehicles as well. I could take you around to a few of the mansion districts where you'll find people that have a BMW parked next to a 1987 Caprice ;) i kid you not!
about a year ago I was looking into getting an old cop car I could remember a few years ago you could pick up used police cars that people had driven and you could get one for around 500 now those same vehicles they want three of 4000 and the vehicle hasn't even run in years. They stop producing rearwheel drive cars other than a few sports cars some years back the last holdout was forward and I think it was 2007 was the last year they sold them here in Nova Scotia that rearwheel drive was an option on the four or forward that they usually used for police cars. I can remember not that long ago you could get them extremely cheap with the bad motor or something like that anything now that is a car and rearwheel drive they want crazy prices if you can even find one for sale.i am starting to have trouble even getting a minivan in the Dodge Caravan line because they're becoming more sought after if you can believe that most Dodge caravan between 1996 and 2008 are so badly rusted that they are not road legal and can't be repaired and even those ones people are paying between 800 and 2500 and driving them illegally.
i was trying to get a 2004 like the one I previously had that the frame broke i payed 400 for it road legal and being driven three years back and I was looking at stuff that they wanted as much as 1000 and it wasn't even safe to drive across the street.i had too get a 98 and pay 800 for something I shouldn't have had pay more than 400! it's bin undercoat it several times so it's not nearly as rusty as most vehicles.my dad has a Western 96 that i gave hem that i bought four or five years ago for 100;) lol believe it or not the vehicle was worth around 4000 when I bought it for 100 there is a big production story behind that but in a nutshell the guy that had it was A complete idiot and didn't realize the difference.it was completely rust free and in the same condition as about a year or two old vehicle underneath lol .ide have probably racked it within two years because of the work I do so I gave it to hem and bout the 04 about a year later .ive most recently been having trouble even getting anything for parts because most minivans are either being taken in for scrap or people are charging insane prices. yaa i can get a cheep Pontiac or Japanese minivan but people actually figured out the kind of punishment the Dodge caravans will take in comparison and basically they don't want anything else!the Pontiac minivans as an example are breaking down quite habitually and the Dodge caravans are like the old K cars and people are driving them into the ground and beyond .

I'm actually quite aware of that! Do you remember the little Geo sidekicks back in the 90s? Guy I went to high school with least a demo model lol. he had it about nine months driving it through the winter and come the spring it was so rotten you couldn't get it were paired for inspection lol that should tell you the quality of those ole Geos in comparison to Canadian climates lol I had never seen a vehicle rust that fast in my life it was about a year and a half old demonstrator model lol he ended up in a big lawsuit where the dealership tried to sue him because he only had it on a lice and in reverse he was trying to sue them for selling him a lemon.
Something I've tried to tell people over the years you can't drive paint! There's quite a few people around here doing camouflage paint jobs on vehicles that underneath are so rotten that at any minute the engine might fall out.i got a set of brand-new tires off of a minivan that was being used as a taxi if you can wrap your head around that Van had not been inspected in several years and that guy thought all he needed to do was put new tires on it to get it inspected LOL. The van had roughly 8 or nine large cans of body fill used to attempt to fix the body within the last year or so that vehicle was basically more Body fill then metal! I and my life had never seen that much Bonnie Phil used on one vehicle.
In Arkansas, any car over 25 years old is considered a classic and you can buy a classic tag and you never have to pay for tags again. Thing was, back when this was set up a 25 year old car still drivable was a rare and precious thing but now the roads are choked with 25 year old Hondas and Toyotas still farting along but with classic tags.
take a look around on eBay.I never even notice those headlights till you mentioned it.a guy hear has 2 of thows rusting in his backyard but I know for a fact he won't let anybody take anything off of them or that would solve your headlight problem lol. I've never even seen a set of aftermarket lights like those before and never even notice them till somebody pointed it out.
I have a 1989 W126 300 SE and I can tell you that it is not a magical experience, the car is not some ethereal ideal nor is it the personification of perfection in automotive form. It is a car, Europe's version of a Buick. I took it in to get a muffler welded on and the shop guys stood in awe saying they never would have thought they would ever work on a Mercedes in their lifetime.
It is a car, and not a very spectacular car at that. It has a way under powered straight 6 engine that gets horrible gas mileage (it had a steep gas guzzler tax when it was new). Everything plastic has turned to goo or crumbled and it doesn't ride near as smooth as you would expect. They were loud when they were new and age doesn't help at all. The very worst part though wasn't the car itself as much as it's reputation. I was pulled over constantly(8 times in 3 years) in this $3500 old used car by the police because they were popular with drug dealers. One stop was for having one tail light brighter than the other. That's a scary thing in rural Texas at 1 am.
I will never own another Mercedes. I have a 1998 Buick Riviera that cost less than half of what the Mercedes did new and is an infinitely better car and my 1993 Eldorado is even better built and more comfortable.
