After talking with a couple followers about Hertz's demeanor immediately before Bolt was born, I felt compelled to sketch up some scenes illustrating some of the various physical and emotional states she goes through in labor. It takes a few hours (not as many as it would for a human). And there's a fair amount of downtime, especially in the beginning (similar, in this case, to what humans experience). It's isn't as difficult as it would be for a human, for two reasons: Hertz has a more accommodating skeletal structure, and, being an electivire, she is obviously larger than an electabuzz. If an electabuzz can give birth to an elekid, an electivire would have an easier time of it.

So anyway, yeah Hertz doesn't find it as awful as the typical human would, but it's not a simple casual thing, either. She allows Jolt and Volt to hang out with her for a bit, but when Bolt is born, Max is the only one with her, to massage her and just generally be there when his daughter is born. Otherwise, Hertz is capable of doing it by herself, as she did with Volt. She's pretty territorial (basically the one exception to her normally chill demeanor), and likes to be left alone for things like this. Still, she appreciates Max's company and assistance, as her mate.
