The man is Frank Zappa and this is the Chunga's Revenge cover photo. Next to his are Boaring Boar and Cuddlefish. Below, left to right, are an octopus in a jar, a maneki neko cat, a black rat, an anglerfish and an F Bomb. Just a little showing off. Sorry. I love making these things. I just bought two more sheets of material to carve. :D

Thank you! This is my rendition of the album cover "Chunga's Revenge".
I use the Speedball gouger type cutters primarily. https://www.dickblick.com/products/.....oleum-cutters/ However, their pink rubber sheets really suck as for holing tiny details. (Like Zappa's hair in the above carving.) So I carve this material https://www.dickblick.com/products/.....inting-blocks/ It cuts like a dream! I can do tiny detail work with this stuff. I sometimes will use a few needles to carve with for intricate stuff. I am a medical laboratory technician and I have access to phlebotomy needles. They have a beveled edge that is very sharp. (This is a dangerous hobby - not sure how many times I've cut or stabbed myself.)
If you're going to turn a shaded drawing (or photo) into a stamp, scan it into your computer and tweak with the contrast and brightness settings. That will help get black areas. You can also do that on a photocopier if you have one that will do contrast/brightness.
