Well, a witfull remark could at least leave some bullies speechless for a moment. He wants to intimidate, but the moment someone brings a clever retort, they are blown off concept.

I imagine the stereotypical "Bully just bullies you to get your attention because he has a crush on you as big as his huge muscles":
Him acting like a jerk and a bully in public, shoving me around but not seriously hurting me. And then, he and I alone one day. Him looming over me, advancing in an intimidating manner, pressing me against the next wall with my face trapped by his ginormous pecs - only to tenderly pet my hair and tell me, that he thinks he loves me but is so scared of it and that he's sorry he was such a jerk around me.. *sigh*
