I found the transformation sequence the animation was created from. I cannot believe this has been around ten years or more.

It does make a tf look more realistic when it's done taking into account anatomy or believed anatomy. It's not actually wrong to have the fingers merge since that's an artistic decision but realistically the appendages don't vanish like that and instead become vestigial. Having a good understanding of anatomy does seem to make an artist a better artist.
Thank you. Good question. I guess I got the idea from a 3-D model of a hydra I saw many years ago. From recent games, I would say similar to the newer hydra models in World of Warcraft build-wise. I based the paws from rhino feet, something designed to spread the weight. The end result is made for a hydra with at least seven heads. Some of the in-between stages have three to five heads.
Just came across this, and thought "I know I saved a copy of that image *years* ago." Great shift anatomy. Definite belated fave for credit where it's due.
For what it's worth, I'm sure I recall it was posted with a comment like "I'm posting this for a friend who doesn't normally do this sort of thing. Show some support, and maybe they'll do more". XD
