I like the fact that the extended fingers can add a little bit of "Plopiness" to give the hands a greater amount of expression. I also like that the hands can appear a bird like four digit claws, while the "Thumb" can still be used as an opposable digit. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished costume.
It actually kinda happened by accident because these hands originally had five fingers but the customer wanted four, so I just cut off the little fingers and, luckily, it turned out that I could easily fit two of my fingers into the center fingers of the gloves, so it all worked out. The smooth effect is possibly helped by the fact that I have quite slim fingers - an imbalance might be more visible with larger fingers. But I still have this pattern so I can certainly use it for your raptor hands if you like. I don't know how well it will work with a stiff, heavy fabric like leatherette, but I can give it a try.
