Childhood Memories 2: When I realised that being different is tough.
We all know that other kids can be cruel, sometimes to the point of being just evil. And I learned how tough it is to be different from the others.
As a kid I was very ill, had to be hospitalised because of pneumonia four times, was on a very strict diet and was forbidden any excessive physical activity.
I still have asthma, but it's not as serious as it was when I was a kid. I was aware of the fact that I could suffocate because of running, exercising, or even laughing too much and I took a special lung medicine wherever I went. Grandma was proud with me that I treated it seriously despite the young age.
It's ok now, I live like any other normal person, but I still have to visit my personal doctor from time to time and take all the medicine she gives me. Oh well.
However, I'll never forget how funny it was for some kids to call me names and run away, laughing, because I couldn't catch them. I wish I could erase some memories from my mind.

*offers you his inhaler* <3 Another asthmatic bull, I see. I seem to pretty much be over it myself, though, but if I DO get sick and it gets into my chest? I'm pretty much house ridden for at least a week, it sucks.
I don't remember getting made fun of because of my asthma, though, mostly other things. Fortunately most of it's a blur but some memories just won't go away ]:8( *big snuggles and hugs*

Kids are jerks. I wasn't the worst one in the neighborhood, but even I did things that I still regret to this day. I wasn't intentionally mean or uncaring. I was just so stupid that most of the time I didn't even realize what I was doing. I was the horrible kind that stepped on ants because I thought they were just moving dots. Fortunately, when I got a little older I was justly traumatized when I realized that living things (like other people) aren't toys after all.
The reason no one should ever get depressed because of the way the other kids act is because they're all assholes. The only available cure is aging. In some cases it helps.

Another fur with chronic asthma! ^-^ I thought I was an oxymoron for a while (dogs and cats can close me up so fast), but I'm glad to hear there are others out there. I can totally relate -- It wasn't fun having to spend weeks or months out of the year flat-out with bronchitis or worse. I guess, on the plus side, it's at least treatable. ^-^
It's truly impossible to make others understand the seriousness of Asthma, if they don't have it themselves. Even in college, while people aren't overtly mean, they can still be cruelly apathetic. Children are like Lord of the Flies, and unless they are pulled up short by authority, they create the most ruthless social dictatorships.
*Hugs* Here's to hoping that you have many more clear days. ^-^
