so this is roughly how i work on full colors and full illustrations. except for sometimes adding refining or inking after the final sketch, which takes approximatelly 2-3 hours alone. of course all the hours range mentioned above varies, depending on how big the piece is, how complicated characters are, how many characters there is, how complex the whole ilustration is supposed to be. there is always some additional time needed for mistakes and fixes too. complex background usually doubles the time, or at least adds to it a lot of time.
my work process is usually slow, i think, though sometimes i have good enough mood to cut that mentioned time in half or in forth, and finish the work within few hours (tho, i'm not sure how i'm capable of that :o) i just really wanted to explain to you how i work, and why it might take me long to finish the work. i don't usually have the whole time in the world during the day, since i'm a student, a wife, a weak health creature and a lazy fool, so it leaves me around 6-8 hours of stright work during one day. and there are also days when in that time i can only do a 2h work progress or none at all. i'm mood-centered person, i rely on my residual willpower to work, and process of making that work better is very slow.
there are also other dificulties, which usually stop me for days on the sketch stage. those dificulties are mostly theme doubts or anatomical problems. i do have that frustrating attribute, that slows me even more: i can't give out or show a work/sketch/wip that does not satisfy me in at least 60%. meaning: i have to like the work, it's flow or composition at least a bit, to continue working on it. in the end, i'm still spending days on the piece and it's not very pleasant if you're force to work on something you don't like at all, even a little bit.
and then it all comes to my work evaluation. how much should i charge? should i charge less, cause it's taking me so long? i know people don't usually sleep on money, and it's always betted to get suff the cheapest you can in high quality, right? but then, this is my only work, and without solid work offer after school, i have nothing to count on, except my husband. but i know one person paying up for everything in the family doesn't end well. and so i struggle.
my current rate is 20-25$ per hour, depending on quality and few other factors. in my contry it's a lot. but then, one full color piece for that price, taking me approximatelly 2 weeks, barely gives me resources for paying up bills, food for that period and medical treatment. so i figured, it'll stay. at least for now. i'm having some shady plans about rolling the bussines some more out to the world so i can afford bonuses, sales and discounts.
i hate the feeling that everybody else out there is doing all that much better and faster than me. but welp. i survived so far.

your art is pretty amazing so I'd say it's worth the wait <3
Taking commissions is so rough, and doesn't always pan out the way ya want
but we artists are tough critters and I'm sure we can deal with anything as long as we set our minds to it!
I personally have so much trouble trying to use Commissions as my way of income so I understand how you feel,
at least a little bit.
just keep up the good work, I believe in ya :>

I feel you so much on this; sometimes I feel like I've improved my speed, but today I struggled for 1-2h with getting the angle of a muzzle right on a portrait. :/
Streaming helped me incredibly with timing, concentration and checking my time! And sometimes it's half as bad as I thought it'd be, when it comes to the time.
Sometimes I'm good with the hourely rate, sometimes it's even below minimum wage. Like 3€/hour. I feel pathetic.
Although another good strategy may be leaving the piece you're struggling with for one or two days and then look with fresher eyes so you can spot mistakes. But then, I get you. I'm stubborn myself and want to finish a piece sometimes right here right now, today.
However the last sentence gets me as well, keep going! I know exactly how frustrating it is and was about to throw it all to many times.
