A rather bittersweet image, this.
Done by Dan DeCarlo at his appearance at Anthrocon, and since this was one of the last pics he did there, it's also one of the last pics he did ever, if not the last, as he passed away suddenly shortly after AC 2001.
I only met Dan briefly, but sort of took him under my wing at AC '01, helping him out at panels and showing him around and such.
He definitely will be missed.

Strange, isn't it?
Here we were in the 80s, talking about the end of the world coming in 1999 (refer to that Prince song if you will), and when the world didn't end as the ball dropped on 2000, the whole world seemed to breathe a collective sigh of relief.
I guess looking back, in some ways, we were better off having the world end and everyone enjoying the afterlife. ^_^
