Petri is such a sweet little baby. He likes baths because he gets so much pampering afterwards- towel dry and then blow dried just for fluff.
Just thought I would remind everyone that I have the most precious rat in the universe.
BEFORE YOU COMMENT: Please remember that this is my PET! He is not a sewer rat, he is a very pampered house rat and he means the world to me. If you don't like rats then just move along.

Oh no, I've had him since last October, he's my rescue baby. I just suck at getting good pictures of my boys- I have yet to get a clear picture of Solomon Grundy.
Good thing there will always be plenty of rats in the future. So many cute little future snoots awaiting you!

uh thats soon ^^
Well my best advice is to pamper them xD I might have over done it with my girl, but she is a lone rat after her sister died and honestly i didnt expect her to live this long. (neither did my girlfriend who is allergic to rats xD), but generally lots of attention, good and healthy food, clean Cage and so forth ^_^
Indeed they are, many underestimate them as pets, which are quite sad. They are sweet and very social pets ^_^

Keeping it clean is an uphill battle with 3 boys!
Oh trust me, my vet wishes she could be reincarnated as one of my rats; they are so spoiled with fresh veggies from the garden and all the love they get. My previous boys would play in the backyard and one would actually jump in the pool and swim sometimes.

My neighbor, calls my Sprague Dawley Rat, Hobie, "Ben" because he's so enormous. He weighs almost 4lbs, and no, he isn't fat. He's just big. Sprague Dawley's are a larger breed of rat, and they are bred without disease (for use in labs ), so they make for really good breeding stock! And not for snake snacks, either! I got 13 healthy babies outta that boy, when I bred him to my girl, Sunnie (short for Autumn Sunshine)... and it was her first litter!!! Oh, and yes, all my adult girls have "race horse" names... lol! I watched "Ben" & "Willard" so long ago, that all I know, is that I didn't like the movies, because they made me cry. I didn't know they made a remake... I'll have to check them all out... I'll probably STILL cry, because I'm a very emotional person, especially when it comes to animals, and sad endings... I still can't watch that "Lock Your Car" PSA, with the puppy in the car, at the gas station? Where the guy steals the car, and the little girl screams in slow motion, "Somebody's taking Max!" I cry EVERY time I see that commercial! What the heck, man? I'm such a cry-baby! I know it's just a commercial, but still... Oh, and no matter how many times I watch the movie, "Homeward Bound" or read the book, for that matter, I blubber like a scolded baby, with diaper rash! Geez! I know the ending, and I know it's a happy ending, but it just makes me cry! *rolls eyes at self*
Hobie gets spoiled rotten, on bath day! He "tolerates it" just so he can get extra snuggles, and kisses, and lots of healthy, yummy treats, afterwards! I give the rats these awesome, organic dog treats, that are Pumpkin & Blueberry, and they're shaped like a flower. I love the aound of hearing 13 rats crunching 13 cookies, aound in unison! A chorus of crunching! In my opinion, it's one of the most welcome sounds, in the world! If I can find the empty package, later, I'll tell you what brand those dog treats are, aoundllnd maybe you can find them for your guys? There always must be rattie spoilage! 💕🐀💖
I bake my ratties little treats out of baby food and stuff, they go crazy for the homemade treats.
Took Petri and Grimms to the store and bought them a gourmet dog biscuit (I love that this place gives you the option to just buy one!). One of the employees cuddled Petri while I looked at some toys and paid for stuff- I think she would walk off with him if she could.
Looking at the Sprague-Dawleys... oh my gosh I need a giant rat in my life. My boy Beadle was a pretty classic Zucker- gained weight just looking at food, but it was funny to see people stare in shock at this foot long black rat riding on my shoulder. Petri is bigger than the average rat, but I was so used to my giant Beadle that he seems little to me.

All rats seem little to me, compared with Hobie! LOL I can tell that a couple of his offspring are going to be bruisers! They're already close to a lb each, and they aren't even 9 months old, yet! The two that are biggest, both happen to be black Berkshires. One male, and one female (separated, of course). Their names are Splinter & Cheyenne (Shy-Shy), respectively. They are so adorable! Even if they DO have Daddy's build!
I would so love to get one. Maybe when I move to a new place and can have a bigger cage (three boys is enough for this cage). We thought Solomon was going to get huge, he doubled in size his first week with me, the vet didn't believe me when I said he was only 6 weeks old. He's still the smallest of my boys (and the portrait of a typical Long Evans, no chill!) but he sees himself as the biggest.
Omigosh! I would so let you have some of my ratties, if you wanted any of them! Splinter is still up for adoption, but I don't have a Computer, to design flyers to post at pet stores, or other places. All I have is my Phone, as at computer. That's why I still have 13 rats, in my house! I want to breed Sunnie again, and I also want to breed her daughter, K'Ehleyr, so that I can get the traits from the babies, that are what I had wanted from the parents, originally. The Dumbo Ears, The Champagne Coloring, and the possibility of Odd-Eyes! Since they come from very good breeding stock, that was why I wanted to breed the two of them, in the first place... to get healthy babies, with great personalities! I accomplished that. Now, it's a matter of bringing out the recessive genes, that are visible in the parents, but won't be seen in their own offspring, unless bred with some of said-offspring. I am so glad that inbreeding does not affect rats! It's the only way, to get a desirable line of specific traits, for a good breeder, and I can't wait to have the ability to advertise my rats, as a means of getting my name OUT THERE, as a reputable breeder. On that, note... I need to go and re-clean cages, so I can drive to my Mom's, and spend some time with her this week. It's a gorgeous day here, so, I should be able to work outside in the warm, sunshine, to get the cages clean, instead of trying to do it, instead my cramped bathtub!
If only! I am hoping to upgrade to a bigger cage once I move to a bigger place, even if it's just the three of them.
Just cleaned my boys' cage yesterday, it was great to be able to do a full scrubdown instead of just some spot cleaning. It would be easier if Solomon would just use the litter box- I've had him since he was a baby and he just flat out refuses to even use a corner!

My rats have a litter box, but they don't use it, really. They will stash food in it, or just sit in it... idek.... they're so weird! LOL I have never been able to litter box train my rats. There have been some, that I "potty trained" to go on a square of toilet tissue, in the sink, and that has been wonderful, for taking them out, in public. They let me know, when they have to go. Ruby was the best at it, but Clover was very good, too... and now my most recent adults, Rosie, and Sunnie are "potty trained"... I wanted to train Pippin, because I thought he was gonna be my next Heart Rat, but God rest his soul, he became anemic from the lice, and passed way, about 3 weeks ago... I cried so hard! He's in the freezer, awaiting cremation, when I can afford it. Sweet Baby Boy Stupid Lice!!!!!
