What you are seeing here is an OOOOOOOOOLD OC from long before I went digital. I decided to give him a modern redux just for the hell of it, and quite honestly I'm very pleased with the results. I really enjoyed drawing him, I might actually start drawing more of these guys in the future.

Anywho, so about Axel (Bio is a work in progress, I'll update it later)

Axel is a Runean breed Dragon from the world of Opscura (part of the Chronicles of Opscura canon: cbxanadu.deviantart.com/galler…), living in Opscura's Steam Age (WWI/WWII Steampunk era)
His particular breed is one of several that are set up to learn any of the elemental magics of Opscura, of which Axel is trained in two, and attempting to learn a 3rd (3 is typically the limit, any more and it begins to take a serious toll on one's body).
Axel, as previously stated, was raised in a research facility. The black market of Opscura is crawling with magic creatures, indoctrinated for use by despots, warlords, crimelords, and the wealthy to use for their bidding. There exist many groups/corporations that produce them, a young Axel and his mother were kidnapped by one. In time, Axel managed to escape, through the efforts of his mother and thanks to a well timed raid on the facility by the Commonwealth Military. A young Axel was left on his own in the wild until eventually being taken in by an outcast commune ("outcast" being the blanket term for those that have rejected mainstream society to live on their own). It was there that he received his unconventional name ("Axel" was bestowed upon him by the outcasts from the only part of his real name he could remember, his real name having been beaten out of him as part of his indoctrination).

Personality wise, Axel does not behave like other members of his species, behaving more closely to the biped "civilized" species he was raised by from a young age. He is rowdy, vulgar, and sarcastic. He is, however, loyal to his adoptive "family", and at times can be overly-protective of them. Unlike the dragon clans, who readily reject technology and civilized practice, Axel possesses a deep sense of curiosity for technology, and civilized culture. He is most fascinated with the Airships that dominate Opscura's skies. Culture-wise, he is wooed by civilized music (being most in love with the rock and roll music starting to take sway in the Commonwealth), and during trips to trading ports and cities with the Outcasts, will often go out of his way to obtain records.
