Yo-kai Watch is a franchise that I am relatively new to, yet find to be more enjoyable than I originally expected. As a monster-collecting game, it has undoubtedly drawn numerous comparisons to the Pokémon franchise. While the comparisons may have some merit, it is important to realize that both franchises differ in their ultimate approaches to a similar concept.

By far my favorite aspect of Yo-kai Watch is the creature designs. Many of them are based around their equivalents in Japanese folklore and I really enjoy coming across an interesting yo-kai and learning more about the legends surrounding it. In the games, yo-kai are summoned using Yo-kai Medals – small coin-sized medals given to the protagonist by them as a sign of friendship.

I wonder what Aelwyn would be like as a yo-kai.
