This is our first snake, so I haven't had any other experiences but the personalities on these hognose snakes are just wonderful. There are some great facebook groups to join / look at before you look to get one, so you can see them. Not sure about sand boas but I'm sure they'd have a group for them, too. My wife has joined one for skinks already and we have yet to get one. :P
