Both those franchises are dead Unfortunately. There are indie shmups like Astebreed keeping the genre somewhat relevant.

It's a wildcard when it comes to the shmups genre, from what I seen it's a combination of panzer dragoon, radiant silvergun, and gradius(it's pretty dialogue heavy as well). I would definitely recommend it if you're interested.

You should check out R-Type Final 2. It's a worthy revival to the franchise.
