STORY TIME:
Back when Tohru was created I had just been introduced to the fandom and was told i needed a character IMMEDIATELY. I chose the first animal i saw when googling "furry" and made a sketch. I was told just an orange fox wasn't original enough so I decided to add purple stripes resembling a harness so i was "always being hugged" However as time went on I realized just how unthoughtful and meaningless Tohru's design was. So after a lot of thought and hours of designing I present to you

Clothing Style: Likes anything light/pastel (baby yellow, baby blue, lavender, baby pink) and fun or cute designs. Polka dots or tiny flowers are a personal favorite pattern. Prefers flowey, loose fitting cloths (flowey tank tops, band tee's dresses) and winter cloths (sweaters, cardigans, scarves, kigus, flannels, over-sized t-shirts) and hardly ever wears pants unless out in public. When she is wearing pants they're light-medium wash skinny jeans or colored skinny jeans. Every colored short is also exceptionable.
Likes: Anime, rain storms, sweaters, tea, Japan, cherry blossoms, hot tubs, sushi, crunching leaves, dancing, fuzzy socks, netflix, falling asleep with her mate, massages, cuddling, and anything winter/Christmas or Spring/Easter related.
Dislikes: Sarcasm, thunder, haters, avocados, being called annoying, hot weather, jello, eraser shavings, being alone for long periods of time, people drawing her markings/tail wrong.
Personality: Tohru is an extreme extrovert. She hates to be alone for more than a few hours and if she can help it, she is always out having adventures or at least talking to someone. She loves going out into nature with friends but is prominently a couch potato and will never say no to netflix and cuddling. She is very naive and doesn't understand sarcasm which often leads to her getting her feelings hurt when her friends are joking around. Tohru is also very touchy and comfortable. She doesn't mind hugging strangers or not wearing pants in front of the mailman. Between her naiveness and her outrageous optimism and lack of boundaries, Tohru is most always a giggling ball of sunshine who hugs everyone and never sees bad in people, however this sometimes leads to her trusting bad people and getting into trouble.

Tohru loves all things. But mostly Japan-related things, she’s a total otaku and is not afraid to admit it. Tohru is also very flirtatious, however when she falls in love, she loves hard and true. She’s a total goodie-two-shoes and is very naive towards the bad in the world like drugs or violence. When these things are brought to light to her, she feels compelled to change them, even when she knows she can’t. Despite Tohru being a constant ray of sunshine to everyone she knows, when sadness hits her, it hits hard. Depending on the cause, sadness (never depressions) can last multiple days, but she very easily bounces back from most things. She is sympathetic, empathetic, caring, generous, and understanding and will always be there for anyone who needs it, even if she doesn’t know them very well.
In general Tohru is always happy and laughing, and loves most everything and everyone.

DETAILS AND WHY THEY'RE IMPORTANT:

- The stripes on her ears are there to remind her that not everything she hears is good but she tries to keep her ears open for good news and happy sounds.
- The stripes on her cheeks represent the worrier insider her who is always ready to fight for what she believes in or defend her friends and loved ones.
- The white on ONLY HER BOTTOM LIP represents using her mouth carefully. Tohru always tries to watch what she says and speak kindly. If there's nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all! :D
- The two bands on her upper arms are to represent her participating in purple-ribbon causes such as animal abuse awareness, ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), and religious tolerance. Whenever going to events for these causes Tohru likes to wear a ribbon around her upper arm to show support. SO THESE STRIPES ARE ABOVE HER ELBOW.
- The stripes down her torso and thighs, up around to her butt represent the self respect and self confidence Tohru is trying to have in this area of her irl body. She loves her chest and face and finds those to be her only good features so the purple stripe is a reminder to be kind to those less loved parts of her body and to remember that all of her is beautiful :,)
- Curved brown socks represent the change her body has gone though and the ups and downs of life.
- Asymmetrical white on paws reminds her that no one is perfect and you don't have to pretend you are. Imperfection is perfection <3
- White fingers remind her to be gentle and treat everything she touches with respect and care.
- And finally the most important feature - The 5 arrows on her back represent the 5 years where Tohru was dealing with a lot of sadness and anxiety. Money was low, her self esteem was shot and school was hard as she was ruthlessly bullied on a day-to-day basis. The stripes point upwards to always remind her to keep her head high and know that no matter what life throws at her, things will get better.

TL;DR Tohru is happy and bubbly and loves everyone, and her markings are very important in reminding her to stay that way despite her hard past.
