For the past couple of months, this rabbit has made a routine of sitting behind the shrubs in front of my house for a good portion of the day. I haven’t tried to get too close, but I do talk to him (her?) when I see him and he seems to be more-or-less at ease with my presence.

Back in the pasture I lived in, there was a half dead elm with a colony of rabbits living beneath it. I would drink my coffee in the morning and watch them graze. Wildlife is awesome. Here in Rockport, we are overrun by deer. I live on the tenth hole and the deer come up and eat our plants in droves. The evening can look like the Serengeti as they move across the course.
Unfortunately, my pasture was just an acre surrounded by barbed wire and scrub trees. The Colorado river was 200 yards away, but I had no access. I was surrounded by rural trash and I am not getting on my high horse. There was no public boat launch and when I did make some friends I was about to sell out. But there was a lot of wildlife, and our biggest problem was skunks and roaming pit bulls. I lost a darling little cat to my neighbor's pack of dogs. Still, it was mine and in the summer evening I would sit under my fave tree and watch the hawks in their graceful turns.
