I do it several different ways, depending on my needs and the time I want to invest into it. This one was recording using an Apex 181 USB large diaphragm condenser mic into my Macbook using Garageband. There's about five tracks to this recording; two guitars, two vocals and a maraca track. It took me about 3 hours to make it.
And thanks very much for your flattering words.

Well when I first started my FA page, forever ago, all I used was the built in mic in my macbook, and plugged my instruments straight into the line in on the computer, then I got a Shure SM58 mic and ran it through the line in with an EQ pedal in between to act as a preamp. Then I got a USB powered large diaphragm condenser mic from my brother that worked really well (I think I used it on this song actually) and now I have a USB powered yamaha mixer with phantom power and I use a ton of different mics, Shure SM58, 57, 56 (for drums mostly) some Apex stuff, an Audio Technica condenser for room sounds, some instruments are midi plugins controlled by an M-Audio midi controller and I still use the USB mic and/or the built in mic to help me write and record on the road.
I hope that helps. :) And thanks for the favs.

You're welcome! And it helped!
I started recently with my headset. Then I borrowed a dynamic from a friend and used it without a preamp. But it was way better.
Now I've ordered a Audio-Technike AT 2020 condenser-mic and a Lexicon Lambda stereo preamp (I don't play drums XD)
I hope this works out.
I'm quite anxious about the bad acoustics of my room.

Sounds like more than adequate gear you got coming to you! Congrats.
On the topic of room acoustics, they don't really matter anymore. As long as you're not recording in a bare concrete room you can get great acoustics nowadays. Actually, I've recorded drums in a bare concrete room and it sounded great, I just draped a blanket over the bass drum and close mic-ed everything.
There's nothing that post production can't cover up these days

I don't use logic actually, everything I use is Garageband. Logic someday would be nice though. I might need a more powerful computer for that. Next step for me is some nice reference monitors so I can mix without headphones, because that's a no-no.
I don't use YIM actually, although I do have an MSN contact on my user page you're welcome to, and I'm more than happy to answer anything on my shout page, or through PM or email or whatever you like. :)

Okay, first off, you like Sloan, therefore you're an awesome person and I love you! ;o)
You have a very Jay-like voice--high and beautiful. Very nice guitar playing too!
Hey, do you attend WTF? in Montreal? Or FurFright down here in CT? If you ever go to those cons, please let me know. I'll bring my guitar along and we can be a Sloan tribute band! ;o)

Fun fact: I've never ever been to any con ever. Heck it took me 13 years to see Sloan for the first time and I grew up an hour and a half from Halifax. But an all furry Sloan tribute band would be an amazing thing to be a part of!
You'll probably also get a kick out of these two songs too:
