Aurorian Dragon Concept Version 5 - Aurora Lumina
*EDIT 5/17/2017* I have just finished editing my character's wing anatomy. Nothing major, just a small change for the concept of an Aurorian Dragon.
Aurora Dragon Concept
This is my character that I have created fours years to the date today. I have been hesitant to post these images online. This was something have done in my free time, and since it has been fours years to the date that I created my character, I decided that it was time post it on my account. And also, I had created my original character on my birthday February the 4th 2013, so after exactly 4 years I decided to upload the latest revision on my birthday, February the 4th 2017.
Information about the concept
It all started with my small fascination of dragons when I was younger. In 2013, I made my first drawing of my character. In terms of its species, I called it the Aurora Dragon. In my mind, this species of intelligent dragons lives side-by-side with humans in North America in an alternate universe. They are called Aurora Dragons because of their glowing marks on their bodies and wing membranes that resemble that of the Aurora Borealis. There are four different variants of the Aurora Dragon; the Green dragon with Light Blue markings, the Red dragon with Yellow markings, the Blue dragon with Green markings, and the Purple dragons with Red/Red-Pink markings. Their colors do not correspond to any elements. In addition, the markings are an indicator of their gender. For females, they will have markings around their eyes while males will have no markings around the eyes.
As for the shape of their heads, I wanted to create something that was unique from all the other designs that use a variety of elements such as horns, fins, and manes. For my dragon, rather than just having horns or fins, the head is defined as one shape, a single element. In my mind, within its fictional world, it is the result of evolution in which the ancestors of the Aurora Dragons had horns on their heads, but over millions of years, their horns had conjoined into one.
Over the 4 years, I have refined my character, from a more feral form that walked on all four legs to an almost anthropomorphic-like form in which the dragon walks straight up on its back legs, leaving its arms and hands free to manipulate objects. This means that they can build a civilization that exceeds that of the humans.
Aurora Lumina
This is my first character that I created, Aurora Lumina. In my fictional world, she is the first of her kind. Taking place almost 4000 years in the past, she had undergone a transformation in which she developed her glowing marks as a result of an encounter with the Northern Lights. In their time, they have a polytheistic religion in which they believe in 5 celestial guardians that created the world. This transformation is seen as the work of the celestial guardians for it also changed the anatomy of the Dragon for it to be stronger and more intelligent than their predecessor.
Since it has been 4 years, I have developed small stories (in my mind at least) that explain the events of certain periods of time throughout the dragons' 4000-year history, from their origin to the present day. But I am busy studying for college so I don't have time to write a complete story.
