
Here is a deerskin drum I painted last year. The drum itself was made by a taxidermist out of unused scrap and it was his first drum so it isn't very even and the surface had some rough patches. I figured it would be a great first painting piece!
I learned how much I really appreciate photoshop. Sooooo much more forgiving than hide, haha.
I used acrylic paint mixed with water, and then sprayed it with a matte clear coat so it is safe to play. I have no idea how to play drums, let alone traditional stretched-hide drums, but I think it looks better than when I started which was my goal!
