My next big project is a large Spinosaurus sculpture! Ordered by the same client who I made the T-Rex for, this one is larger and to scale with "Sue". (Sue is in my gallery if you want to see her). The Spino is planned to be 12" tall and 33" long. Time for another work-in-progress adventure, folks!
I've already been working on it some. I've drawn the plan, assembled the shape with gourds (the tan things) and wire. The grey and beige is epoxy clay, to give it a hardened and secure structure.

Hey, have you seen NOVA's latest documentary about spinosaurus? They finally got enough pieces to put together a whole skeleton, and...it is a very strange dinosaur, anatomically speaking. From one sculptor to another, I highly suggest watching that documentary before going any further on that piece. You'll find the front end of the beast isn't like other dinosaurs, and their over-sized forelimbs cause the wrists to curl inward, so they scoot along on top of their massive hands. It's really an extraordinary species, wholly subsisting on fish. ♥
I've seen some research and read a bit of it, but haven't watched the whole documentary (unless it's 5 mins long, I saw that one). They look so gator-like, I'm amazed by the discovery! A big improvement on the "movie" style, always thought it was off. I'll watch it again. :)
