Certainly liking it so far. Another good ol' tough-as-nails badger, and a not-so-happy/perfect situation concerning Orkwil, since he's a non-vermin who's initially being punished for stealing from the abbey.
When it comes to arguments of "fantastical racism," I typically don't agree for one reason or another (if in no other sense than in the "this is a different world, and stuff is going down in different ways than it would in our world" way), but also believe it's worth discussing and pondering. Orkwil's starting situation, along with several other characters throughout the series, I like for being examples of "just because they're not vermin, doesn't mean they're little-miss/mister-perfect," and vice-versa.
I think the books can actually be really good for discussing morals and when/if certain acts are justifiable, certainly for younger audiences, but for adults too.
