An art-trade story for
SWSU-Master about the Bear Banjo starting to experience some changes after snooping around in Gruntilda's lair when after defeating her.
Banjo Kazooie belongs to Rare.
It had finally happen.
After being on one crazy high flying adventure together through many insane worlds, collecting Jiggys, and with his trusty backpack bird partner Kazooie the bear called Banjo had managed to defeat the evil witch Gruntilda, and saved his sister that had been kidnapped by her.
Upon being back home again in safety Tooty shared all the details on what she had been witnessing during her time as Gruntilda's prisoner, and she told the heroic duo amongst other things about how she had been seeing a big machine that the wicked villain had been planning to use on her.
"I have no idea on just what that old hag had been planning to use me for in it, but I'm really glad that I will never got to know that!" Tooty said as both she and Kazooie agreed that it was best to just forget the whole thing now and put it behind themselves.
But for the bear brother Banjo his curious mind just couldn't let go about that strange machine that his sister had mentioned.
What was it suppose to do?
How would it work exactly?
And most of all, is it still there?
Later at the evening when both Tooty and Kazooie was resting really heavily in their bed/backpack respectively (Given all the excitement they had been through) Banjo was only pretending to be asleep, as he carefully got up from his bed and started to sneak out of his house.
Once fully outside Banjo headed his way up towards the very spiral mountain that his home place was named after, and then started to cross over the bridge that was connecting to the entrance to the witch's terrifying lair!
Despite knowing that the evil from within the mountain castle itself was no more, Banjo still felt very on edge as he went deeper and deeper into the abandoned creepy place all alone.
After much searching he finally found a room that contained what looked like the creation from a really twisted mind.
Standing on two large platforms was a couple of very identical mechanical modules, both with very large antennas sticking out from them. (Almost like they where used to try and teleport something from one station to the other.)
There was also a nearby control panel standing right in front of the two, and Banjo of course started to test pressing all the buttons he saw, in order to see if he could learn what this machine was suppose to do.
All the button pressing resulted in the machines doing a lot of small things. From blinking lights and sparkly electricity from the top antennas, to having the windows on the doors glow bright green for a moment and having a very unsure green smoke coming out of it.
By just a random combination of pushing buttons Banjo managed to open the door to one of the two still unknown things, and having let his curiosity lead him this far the dumb bear decided that a short look inside the thing wouldn't hurt.
But he was all so wrong about that, cause as soon as he stepped into the unknown creation the door suddenly closed itself!
Being now all trapped inside Banjo started to panic and bang on the door as hard as he could with his fist, desperately wanting to get out of it!
There was suddenly blast of electricity bursting through the tiny room for a second, (knocking Banjo onto his back) before the door that had locked him in suddenly open itself again.
Not wanting to stay any longer in this nightmare of a place Banjo quickly got back up on his feet as he made a run for it, and he didn't stop until he was finally back at his own home.
Feeling beyond tired now from both the scary tower search and the near death experience that his one bear expedition had lead him through, Banjo barley needed to do more then lay down onto the bed before he too was being fast asleep as his two friends.
But what he didn't notice as he was sleeping was how one of his hands was starting to change up quite a bit! It was getting a bit more scaly, growing long nails, and starting to look a bit GREEN!
Waking up the next morning Banjo only needed to scratch his itching nose in order to notice that something was very wrong, and upon looking down he could see that the hand scratching his itch was all green and scaly!
Letting out a bit "YELP!" Banjo quickly hid his hand under the cover, as his sudden shout was causing Kazooie to wake up and for Tooty to enter into their room.
"What's happening dear brother?" Tooty asked worryingly as Banjo just looked up at the two of them starring back at him, and trying to cover the truth as well as he could the bear brother just said, "Uh...Bad Dream?" before giving a bit of a goofy smile to show that he was sorry for waking them up.
"Oh, okay. Had me worried first that something truly terrible had happen to you." Tooty said as Kazooie mumbled that "Sometimes being with Banjo is like a life long bad dream." as she got out of the backpack and headed out to get some water for her dried up throat.
With both of them now out of the room Banjo uncovered his hand again to see that it was indeed so weird and gross looking as he had feared it was.
"What?! How?..." Banjo asked himself before remembering having been inside that machine last night.
"I just thought that was a bad dream? Oh wait, that's what I told Tooty and Kazooie just now to not let them know." He thought to himself, and face palmed himself over being so stupid.
This in return lead to the green stuff starting to spread over his forehead, as a quick look in the mirror showed how the bear's whole face was starting to change!
In a mirror he could see in horror that besides getting green skin he also saw how his eyes got a much more elongated pupils, his teeth got a lot more sharper, and his ears more pointy!
He needed to get some help fast, but he still didn't want to risk scaring his friends with his problems. So in a desperate attempt to still keep his changes hidden Banjo decided to take the backpack he was always carrying around, and instead wore it over his head to keep it all hidden.
Being now basically blind Banjo very clumsily made his way out of his room, through the kitchen (Where both Kazooie and Tooty had stopped eating of their breakfasts over seeing Banjo's weird attics.), before going in the direction towards the main door out.
"Hey! That's my home you are walking away with, you stupid bear!" Kazooie shouted out in anger as she flew up from her chair, and tried to grab the bag by her claws from Banjo!
But the bear made an extra quick run towards the door, and managed to exit and close it behind himself just as Kazooie could be heard crashing into it at full speed!
It was not the most kind thing to do to his best friend and number 1 adventure buddy, but Banjo knew that it would all be so much worse if Kazooie had revealed him.
As he ran away from his home Banjo didn't know at first who to turn to for help, but then it hit him.
Mumbo Jumbo!
"That wise shaman must know a spell that can fix this!" Banjo said to himself as he once again climbed up the spiral mountain, enterer the mountain shaped like Gruntilda's face, and then entered into the "Mumbo's Mountain" world.
Once inside it was lucky for Banjo the (now half)bear that there was some stairs leading up to the small village from where Mumbo's skull home was laying, so that he wouldn't need Kazooie's help to reach it.
Upon entering Banjo carefully knocked at the entrance and said that it was him (So that Mumbo would hopefully be ready for when seeing how he looks like), and despite his best tries the shaman only had time to utter "Oh bear. How very nice to see you..." before he fell back in his throne and pointed his weapon wand at the hybrid creature that stood in front of him!
"Take it easy Mumbo! It's still me!" The Banjo monster said, and being reminded now of it having said it had been him before entering Mumbo lowered his weapon and got a lot more concern over his dear friend's situation.
"Bear looks...different." The shaman said as Banjo sighed and explained the whole story about how he had got himself in this mess.
"Oh yes. Evil witch sent invitation to Mumbo to come to room, and watch strange machine do wonders." Mumbo said as he dug up the old invitation card that Gruntilda had sent him. "Mumbo never came, but Mumbo guess machine would do that?"
"I have no idea what it was suppose to do, but can you please change me back?" Banjo begged as Mumbo looked a bit confused.
"Bear is asking for big favour...but Bear and Bird saved whole world, so Mumbo will try his best." Mumbo said as he started to try and concentrate on making a helping spell.
His staff could be seen lighting up with a great magic force, and then suddenly Mumbo shouted out "Oomenacka!" as he sent the magic out towards his disfigured bear friend!
And while the plan had been to have it (hopefully) help Banjo turn back into his normal bear self the spell seemed to have the opposite effect, as instead of making the transformation parts go away it made it all escalate a lot quicker!
Feeling his whole body shake and tremble in slight pains Banjo could see how his other hand started to match his first one in becoming green and scaly, before then feeling how both his legs also started to change, along with him getting a small pouch of a scaly belly, and then finally how a long lizard tail came poking out of the back of his shorts and growing quite long before simply laying flat on the ground. (Along with feeling inside how his tongue was a lot more longer now.)
Looking at himself now Banjo was no longer the well known bear he was used to, and instead now looked like some kind of weird reptile.
"Obs. Seems like Witch Doctor's spell didn't do the trick." Mumbo said as Banjo started to freak out a bit.
"What do I do now?! I can't show myself like this to my sister and adventure buddy!" Banjo cried out as Mumbo just looked down in shame and said that, "Seems like only thing bear...lizard can do now."
After having his one last hope only speeding up his already sealed fate Banjo finally faced his lost as he had to head back to his home, and try to explain that this now was his new self.
Standing back outside the house where Tooty and Kazooie was waiting in Banjo hesitated first and wished to just leave and run off, but then he swallowed his pride and knocked on the door.
"I'll take it!" Tooty's voice could be heard saying as she open saying, "Just why did you run of like that Banjo?..." before seeing strange creature starring back at her.
At first she thought that this was someone else knocking by, but when seeing it carrying the same shorts and backpack as Banjo the bear sister started to both get a bit scared and sad.
"B-Brother?" She asked in disbelief as the lizard creature sighed and said, "Yes. It's me." as Kazooie came to join the commotion happening at the doorway.
"What's the noise this time?..." The annoyed bird asked before for once getting a lost of words when seeing what had happen to the dumb bear she usually was with.
What followed then was the story of Banjo's own stupid curiosity lead to him entering this transformation phase that he couldn't escape no matter how hard he tried to.
During this whole thing Tooty and Kazooie had very different reactions to it all, as while Tooty was all teary-eyed over hearing just what her dear brother had been through, Kazooie just rolled her eyes and thought that Banjo had been deserving what had happen to him for going out all alone on something so dangerous.
Once finished speaking Tooty said that despite him having changed a lot on the outside she still knew that it was the same Banjo as she knew deep down inside. She then nudged Kazooie to agree with her, to which the stubborn bird finally coughed out something that sounded like a "Still love you".
Banjo felt overjoyed knowing that he still had this sister and bird to find support from, and he suggested that Kazooie jumped into the backpack so that they could go on with their next great thing.
"Why not? My legs could use some resting." Kazooie said as she flied up and nestled herself into the comfy bag, only to suddenly feel her all of her was starting to change as well!
"What the heck?!" Kazooie shouted out as she tried to escape the bag, but her very quick and extreme transformation was preventing her from doing that!
First when the whole thing had cooled down did Tooty try to carefully open up the bag and look down, only for something small and purple to quickly fly up and then land right on top of lizard Banjo's head.
If someone thought that Banjo's transformation had been involving a lot of changes then that was nothing compared to Kazooie, who now as a lot more shorter, had very short fur instead of feathers, was all purple, had big ears, and instead of a long beak she was now sporting a big red nose!
"What-What just happen to me?!" Kazooie asked out in shock as Banjo said, "Obs! Guess when I rubbed by transformed face all over the insides of that thing it ended up leaving some of that goo that makes anything that touches it change." as the now pissed bat smacked the dumb lizard over the head when hearing this.
"So now I also have to look like some kind of weirdo because of you?!" The Kazooie bat said as Banjo lizard couldn't help but laugh in the mirror and comment over that, "You got a tomato as a nose now buddy."
But despite them now both sporting a completely different look to their original shapes, both Banjo and Kazooie knew that as long as they continue to work together as a true team then there would be nothing out there that would be to hard for them to overcome!
"Time for some adventures!"
