For the upcoming calendar project: http://coyote-tangent.com/wywh/
The idea is a series of postcards from around the world depicting dogs native to that region in their..natural element!
A labrador Retrievor enjoys October in the beautiful scenic Western Canada, more specifically Brittish Columbia, a close neighbor to where I live, Washington State. I suppose it is a bit clicheish but then..it's kinda meant to be ;). Hopefully it isn't offensive to any Canadian folks out there, it's not meant to be in the least..just a bit of fun and twist of humour. I realize it is a jab at Dudley Do Right with our mountie here sitting backwards on the moose. Actually I started out with the idea of showing a Moose's posterior plastered with Canadian stickers..but since the focus of the piece was supposed to be the doggies of the world, I supposed a good view of our mountie would be important..so I made him sit backwards on the moose (since I found it too hard to part with the idea of a moose's behind..don't ask.)
So here he is Saluting a proud family of Beavers, the patriarch of which holding aloft the Canadian flag.
Overall I had fun with this piece, just getting back to my roots of a more toony style!
Size: 9.25 x 12.25 inches at 300 dpi
Time: ??
Prints: yes 8x10 for 10$ US plus shipping, note me if interested :).

Well, I'm Canadian (Quebecois), and I don't find it offensive... although you might receive a few harsh words from the Royal Canadian Moosive Police.
One minor point, though: In the three decades I've lived here, I've never heard anyone say "Eh?" -- except, of course, on SCTV....

eep! I adored your piece..but I wondered when I saw it here on FA if you had made the colors a bit more bold..I thought it was in my head though ;)! Hehe on the contrary though..I had wondered if the bold colors here would be..too much..I amm tryyiing to learn how to work with subdued tones and still make them grab the eye..but I always end up falling back on bright colors o_o..SO I guess I am getting at..I like it when other artists use softer tones..I think it almost adds a dreamy quality to art.
You are correct! The piece that's up on the WYWH site is the lo-res I sent for approval; then, the next day while waiting for approval to send the hi-res, I added more color to it (more details, highlights, etc), so it wouldn't look so pale. The version here on FA is tweaked thanks to tips from Thornwolf; the one that's on the calendar isn't so bold.
I love subtle colors AND bright colors; I'm just not that good at using bright ones, which is why mine look subdued usually. I'd like to experiment more, but I'll always do subtler stuff too. And on the contrary ;) I LOVE _your_ brights, but I htink you handle subtle ones just as well!!! IMHO, bold colors make for a great calendar - very eye-catching!

Hehehe, the beaver family is what really does it for me in this pic (Canadian here too BTW). Its just so well done overall though. Absolute fav here. If money were better for me right now I'd be asking for a print too.
Labrador retriever huh? He's going to have to retrieve a long way to get to labrador from British Columbia. :)

as a canadian i dont take too much offence to this...but im sure my friend whos actually in the RCMP wouldn't see too much of the humor in that! especially if they knew you weren't canadain!
Dudley Do Right....hmmm cant say i was a fan of that movie for the same purpose....seeing as the movie in all fairness...really didn't improve the worlds ideals about mounties....even though its obviously a humorus movie..its still poking fun at a serious tradition in canadian history!
I like the pic because i know in general canadians would like the originality of it...but aslo i could see them frowning at it because it is our culture (or lack there of!) and mounties are not stupid enough to do something like that! (which is why sceptics didnt' like dudley do right...it was like he was degrading the top ranking officers of Canada!)
Sorry..im ranting!
GOOD JOB! Nice color styles and textures!
Proud to be Canadian!
