“Ugh, four-fifty, time to get up…”
It was another day for Tatsuki, early working in moving and deliveries. He had long since given up on being a carpenter, but he still managed to be useful to his Dad’s company. Despite there being a holiday today, he still had to help prepare for the Falling Leaves Festival.
So no day off for him.
“I think I’ll just come home after setting up.” The green dragon said, stretching, then putting on some clothes. “Besides, I really don’t really want to run into anyone there.”
Tatsuki thought about his old friends as he looked out his window at the shining sun. Ever since his plane crashed in the woods a few months ago, he wasn’t himself, and had put some distance between himself and them. He couldn’t really face any of his old friends now, and had lost a lot of his confidence on just about everything.
With a sigh, he made his way downstairs and made himself some food.
“Hey, Brat!”
Jumping at the sudden loud noise, Tatsuki turned to see his dad was there, holding a bottle of Sake.
‘Drunk already…’ He thought and resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “Give me a minute Pops, I’ll be out to help in a few minutes.”
Surprisingly Tappei didn’t argue or reply to the younger dragon. Normally Tatsuki would question why his dad was drunk and not helping for the festival preparations, but long ago accepted not to even bother, seeing how it didn’t usually end well.
After a quick rice ball, Tatsuki quickly made his way outside, and on his way out, he came across a face that he didn’t expect to see so soon.
“Oh, hi.” The golden fox before him said.
The dragon couldn’t help but let out a small smile.
“Hey Aladar.” Tatsuki said. “Didn’t expect to see you again so soon.”
“Ugh…”
The dragon could tell that Aladar was trying to remember his name.
He chuckled.
“Tatsuni?” Aladar guessed.
“Tatsuki.” The reptile corrected and the fox grumbled.
“So close.” He heard the fox whisper.
He was wondering what the fox was doing here though.
“You’re up early.” Tatsuki pointed out. “What brings you here?”
“I actually was just exploring the town. I rise early a lot, and got bored at the hotel.” Aladar said with a smile. “I didn’t think that I would see you here. What is this place anyway, it doesn’t look like a house.”
The dragon didn’t blame him for not knowing; the size of the workshop would make anyone pass off the idea of the place to be a living area.
“This place is the carpenter's workshop,” Tatsuki explained. “There is a living space on the inside, but the rest of it is the workshop where we make stuff like furniture. My dad owns the company and place.”
Tatsuki couldn’t help but blush a little at the impressed look that Aladar had on his face.
“So if your dad owns the company, does that make you the heir?” The little fox asked.
That question made Tatsuki a little nervous.
“Well, I’m no good at being a carpenter; I’m mainly here as a delivery boy because I’m the only one who can drive.”
“HEY! WHAT ARE YOU STILL DOING OUT HERE?!”
The loud voice caught both Tatsuki and Aladar off-guard, causing both of them to jump.
Tappei-san was standing behind them, holding another bottle of Sake.
‘Shit.’
“Sorry sir.” The fox said, stepping in front of Tatsuki, bowing. “It was my fault; I started a conversation with him and I didn’t know that he was busy, and I didn’t give him a chance to tell me either.”
Tatsuki was a little surprised that Aladar was covering for him. Normally no one would take a fault for him against his dad.
Surprisingly his dad didn’t yell again; he was just looking at Aladar with a smile and an orange blush on his face.
“So, you came here looking for a job?” The drunk dragon slurred. “We’re hiring.”
‘Wait, what?’
“You are?” The fox asked. “Well, I just got into town, and I haven’t thought of what I’m going to do while I’m here.” He continued. “Tatsuki told me that you guys are carpenters, and I’ve studied a bit on that subject back in America, so I know the basics. I’m not really that strong though.”
Tappei just smiled and took Aladar’s hand, making the fox blush a little.
“Come inside.” The older dragon said, then looked at Tatsuki. “You, beat it!”
For some reason, Tatsuki felt a little aggravated that his dad was taking off with his friend, but just sighed and let it go.
Just as Tatsuki and Aladar passed by each other, the dragon felt the tip of his tail touch Aladar’s tail.
His eyes went wide.
xOx--
Tatsuki had no clue where he was, but was in a state of shock when he saw the whole area around him in flames.
“Someone, help!”
The dragon froze for a second, but rushed towards the source of the voice.
“Where are you?!” Tatsuki shouted. “I’m here to help!”
The dragon was frantic searching for whoever needed help, but stopped when he saw a small, golden blur on the stage through the fumes. Rushing over there, he was horrified to see Aladar there; a weird looking crest that glowed a light-green was on his head, and a spire was driven through his left leg. Trails of tears were streaming down the vulpine’s face as he slowly closed his eyes.
“Aladar!” Tatsuki shouted and rushed onto the stage. “Don’t worry, I’ll get you out of here!”
When Tatsuki went to scoop the fox into his arms, they went right through Aladar's body.
‘What the…’ The dragon thought. ‘What’s going on, why can’t I touch Aladar?’
He then took another look at his surroundings.
‘Come to think of it, why can’t I feel the heat from the fire?’
The sound of cracking above him interrupted his thoughts, and it felt like time had slowed down as he watched the beam above him fall and smash Aladar’s head flat, sending blood flying everywhere.
xOx--
Tatsuki coughed a little as the vision ended, making him examine his surroundings.
He was back in front of his house, and saw that Aladar was walking into his house with his father.
‘What was that all about?’ The dragon asked with a sigh. ‘Was that some sort of dream?’
Tatsuki wanted to go check on Aladar, but knowing that he was with his father made him feel a little better.
Well, sorta.
Worrying a little less, the dragon made his way to the town and spent a few hours helping setting up booths and stands, but despite the work he was doing, he couldn’t help but think about Aladar the whole time.
“Young Master!”
The dragon turned his head to see Chuukichi and Nikaidou walking towards him.
“The stage is set up, we’re done.”
‘Stage?!’
Something added up in Tatsuki’s head; part of him thought that the vision was an event that was going to happen sometime today, while the other part of him thought that he was thinking too much and was worrying about nothing.
‘But it was too strange to be nothing.’ He thought. ‘The two of us came in contact and I had that weird vision; it can’t be a coincidence.’
Not thinking, Tatsuki began to walk in the direction of the Midoriya Workshop to check on Aladar.
‘I’ll just take him out somewhere; I don’t want him to go to the festival after that weird vision I had.’
Tatsuki still thought that he was thinking too much too much on this, but his gut told him otherwise, and he didn’t want to take any chances.
Also, he wondered what on earth made him have that vision in the first place. He had never experienced anything like it before, save a couple dreams when he was younger. The supernatural wasn’t something much of an interest to him, not only was seeing into the future absurd, but why did it have to happen to him? And why involving his newest friend.
‘It sure is strange…’
