One thing I always get uncertain about is when ref sheets don't mirror actual anatomy of the animal.
For example, lions... but with tiny petite domestic cat faces.
Do I draw a realisticly proportioned lion head? Or go with the style on their ref?
Do I draw a shark with a pointy head or go with the style on the ref?
I never know ;w; so I just have to guess. OR I MEAN I COULD ASK THEM WHAT THEY PREFER actually I should start doing that.
