I used to think that thesse critters were bumble bees. Turns out tht they are Carpenter Bees: Twice the size of bumbles and the only ones that can hover, let alone fly backwards. I DEEPLY regret not grabbing my camera BEFORE I transfered her from my finger to a bush. But oh well, maybe some other time.
