Pi is a common house sparrow. Over here in USA he* is perfectly legal to keep since he is not considered a native species, his kind are from Europe.

Its true, there are a lot of very strange laws around here. I know in California there is a law that says you cannot have a crow in your possession for over 24 hours unless you are licensed to handle wildlife, but you can shoot any crow on your property. It doesnt make any sense.
