My snowserval avatar, Kacey, in a fantasy art studio/living space built underwater. She's relaxing on a couch with a soft blanket, reading a book (one of my favorites by Preston and Child - "Still Life with Crows") I included many personal touches that reflect my interests. Some of these include - a kotatsu (we have this exact one but with a brown blanket instead of green), raw leaf tea, family photos, many of my art supplies, Avatar graphic novels, Parasyte manga, succulents, and of course some of my favorite fishies including porcupine pufferfish and fancy goldfish.

This illustration was very generously sponsored by ralenfox ralenfox

Done with fluid acrylics on 11"x14" illustration board.

I appreciate that the freshwater fish (goldfish) are in an aquarium, rather than outside. :P It's one of many things I appreciate about your art - your attention to detail and striving for factual accuracy as well as aesthetic beauty. Very beautiful picture that depicts a beautiful idea.

Also, having worked with many porky puffers in the aquarium trade, I love how personable and interactive they are. :D Such delightful fish.

An aquarium in a place like that seems kinda redundant :p
But I guess it's still nice to have at least some fish to interact with.

Love all the details you put in this, you always do such great work with them.
I like those picture frames, they give it all more of a sense of being lived in and give it a personal touch... Seems to be yours and Noriko's personas, and then I'm guessing below that is of your parents and sibling?

One other thing I always like is how you place your signature mark, it's there and visible, but you always seem to manage to place is just so that it blends into the image and doesn't distract from it, like it's supposed to have always been there. :)

I didn't want my cute little freshwater buddies to feel left out =) And nonsense! Once can never have too many aquaria.

Yes, the photos are (from top to bottom) Noriko and I in Japan, my parents, sister and me (based on my memory of a Christmas photo when I was young), and my sister and I holding hands in the bay at Balboa island.

Thanks so much! I do like to integrate my signature where it will not be too disruptive.

I have a full set of the mixx release, some of them I bought when they were new, and I got the rest from Powells books years ago. I'm still amused at how they used to flip manga releases so they could be read left to right. I've also got some of the old mixxzines in a box somewhere.. I originally bought it for sailor moon, but parasyte caught me off guard and sucked me in

What always blows me away about your art is the little details you include.. Piping on the seat cushions, those plastic drawers with drawing supplies, the slide out drawer on the drawing table (which I've actually seen in stores, just like the rolling chair), and the strap complete with clip on the suitcase... This is the kind of work that draws interest, and keeps one coming back for more..

*jaw drop* Good gods... every time I think I've seen you go all out with detail, you keep one-upping it. This is AMAZING, and on a lot of fronts. First, setting... good gods, this would be such an inspiring, peaceful place to just relax and feel mentally free and fluid. Design-wise, it's so functional; the comfy couch, the drawing board, shelving (accessible from either side) and the super-cool tea table and floor-chair, ARGH... love it. Art-wise, the colours are so gorgeous, and the fluid and lighting effect work around the tea and cups... WOW. Your character, as always, is so pretty - very elegant and graceful in her design as well as her pose, and adorable paws of course. I like how, if you follow her eyes, she's very focused on the book too - showing that even in that amazing place, one can still lose themselves in another place with the right mindset. :) Incredible work as always Kacey.

The anime was a good adaption of the manga - it updated it more to modern day - with the technology and such. I'd say it was a pretty faithful adaptation, though I think the anime may have toned down the gore a bit, haha. I was really excited when I heard they were making an anime of it, and even more excited that it was really good XD. I really liked the music, and I think they played the emotional moments just right.

Okay so my favourite thing from this whole painting is the fact that everything looks how it feels omg

The cushions and sofa look soft, like if I'd reach out it'd squish down

The little seat and table make me imagine that if I felt them, I'd feel the wood and lithe stiffness

And the paint brushes in the shelf seriously remind me of my own, so I imagine feeling the strands of hair and them either being soft or a little wirey

Seriously, I love how you portray objects in your paintings, it's honestly traditional art goals

Of course the lighting and colours are to DIE FOR my gosh, it all just flows so amazingly I just love it all

I can't WAIT to see more pieces from you in the future <3

They're pretty hard to get in the US. I fell in love with the kotatsu when I did a homestay in Japan when I was in highschool, they're so cozy to take a nap under. We got ours on Ebay from somebody who is in Torrance, CA - so the shipping was not astronomical. The big thing though is you need a Japanese/US power converter, because if you plug the heater directly into the US outlet, it will overload it.

An aquarium inside the aquarium? Feels 'lived in' and a relaxing spot. I know they have hotels underwater but this really would be fun to live in....maybe one day.

I have a distinct feeling of déjà vu... Haven't you posted a WIP of this earlier? Nonetheless, this is absolutely lovely. The quality of your art, how you've drawn the atmosphere in it and everything, is just outstanding. I wish to commission you a larger piece of this sort of kind at some point, though it's going to have to wait a while.

lot of people have already touched on your crazy attention to detail, which is incredibly wonderful here

but what impresses us the most is how, despite how exotic the place feels, it is still very "homely"; it feels lived-in and real

things like the art-supplies drawer having been left half open, the tea on the table still steeping, the pictures on the wall establishing a history and so on, all very cool

great piece! 10/10 vixens

Now, this is what I love about you Kacey, and in artist's overall… You can change something as plain and simple like a white sheet of paper.
Into a beautiful drawing like this one right here. A drawing that brings happiness to people, a gift that will be cherished for years to come. ;w;
Just like when people go to shaman for spiritual guidance. People are coming to you so you can help them release their imagination, ideas and dreams from the prison of their minds.
As they are either unable to do that on their own. Or in the way that its satisfying for them. You are literally creating something from nothing... Isn’t that the basic term for a miracle?
I wish to thank you from the bottom of my heart. For all your hard work and effort that you put throughout the years into your drawings, and in polishing your art-style. TwT
Thanks to artist’s like you, me and your watchers can admire such beautiful masterpiece’s like this one. QwQb
