Its a single layer in photoshop. So you start with the base color and sketch onto it, and airbrush over. There is a step by step of a simplier painting in my da gallery.

verry impressive, i was speachless for a while ^^ im sure i could create something simular if i wasnt lazy, took several weeks of non stop working on it, had any inspiration what so ever, and if someone else did it for me such as you :P hehehe ^^ but seriously its great n makes meh want to try harder at my lazy sloppy works ^~
