I keep hearing horror stories about the cintiq...apparently it doesn't for everyone...plus I understand that they can be a pain to calibrate colorwise...besides....I've never had a problem translating what I'm doing on a tablet to what's happening on the screen...so the cintiq is not really a necessity.
All very good news!
And yeah, I've used my tiny graphire3 for years now already, and before then I had a little "third party" graphics tablet with a battery in the pen... Both were great even without having a screen behind them, so I suppose this would be the smartest option to go for.
Thanks c:

$349 on eBay, new and sealed for the medium size.
2048 levels of sensitivity...which I figured wouldn't make a difference...but by God it does. All 8 buttons are customizable, plus you have the touch wheel, which is nice...it can toggle through four different functions. The pen is awesome...I'm so glad to have an eraser again on the other end. You get a set of customizable nibs for the pen with four different types and a different feel for each...
It's more or less just an upgrade from the 3.
