What's this SAI thing I keep hearing about?

SAI is a colouring programme - free for 30 days, about £34 to buy after that. A lot of artists use it as an alternative to Photoshop, Illlustrator, DrawPlus and GIMP.

Does it have advantages to PS, or is just a cheaper alternative? I ask as I all ready use Photoshop.

Ah, there, I'm afraid I'm out of my depth - having used neither :P I think it's mainly the price and flexibility that attracts the artists, but you'll have to ask others.

It's got it's quirks, certainly. The prime example (for me at least) would be the linework layer - you can use it to adjust how thick your lines are, and the 'pressure' of then (how well they taper off). It's not got quite as many brushes as Photoshop has, and they're all generally separated into distinctly different tools (e.g. the airbrush has the soft round tools, where the pen has the hard round), and with some elements of real media mimicry, a bit more like Painter than Photoshop.

I'm not doing a very good job of describing, I don't think. XD Ultimately, the best thing would be to try it yourself - http://sai.detstwo.com/sai/ It's a trial, and easily uninstalled after all. :D

I haven't used one of those (pixel based drawing/art programs not inc. the gimp) in years! Ah, remembers back to Dpaint III on the amiga!! 32 colours, 320x256...hehe...not that I can draw btw!

Wow, this drawing came out amazingly Blue. I love the coloring hues in this. It really brings this to life and adds so much depth to the puffiness of this drawing. Also it looks so smooth, which is a major plus! Nice touch with the small shine spots around your belly and arms in this, plus I like how thick your arms look in this. A fitting size given your belly size.
