errr i did this a few days ago. it took a stupid amount of time but just randomly needed to animate a gem. currently i cant really offer these on commission cause the amount of time it took it would be somewhere starting at $50 just to break even at minimum wage and thats kinda a lot for an animation that barely lasts a few seconds
...so once i get better at this I might offer animations at a later date
but not yet

Hey Gem,
I'm literally working on something similar right now, and I was curious, what did you use to make your GIF?
Like did you do lay that all out in your art program with each frame as a layer and export to GIF or did you use some special animation program?
I find it a bit much to layout every frame as a layer, I get them lost... D:

yepyep GIMP all the way. Though adding names to the individual layers helps heaps. I had binkyin binkyout eyesshut eyesopen that sort of thing so i can see where they are in relation to the rest of the animation. but this was like 27-30ish frames somthing like that so i cant imagine how complicated 20 million frames would be
Both GIMP and Photoshop are probably the best programs to use for animated GIFs if you don't want those weird dithering issues with shading. Even programs made for animation like Flash and Premiere don't really do it properly. It's weird =/ It'll be cool if you could find another program, though!
Wow this looks absolutely amazing, you did wonderful!
I didn't realize animation was so difficult for a lot of artists. I've always just used Photoshop and it works perfect for me. I can even export my file to whatever size I want and choose how long frames stay and tween frames...etc.
But this is so well done for being done with layers in Gimp!
