As much as I love the forest, the prairie is my homeland. Having recently moved back to the midwest, I thought it would be appropriate (and fun) to do a series paying tribute to the prairie states.
While researching our state birds, I found that many birds appear multiple times, and this helped me narrow down a list of 12 states to only 4 (whew!) ...
This is the first of the series, representing my home state of Kansas and it's state bird, the Western Meadowlark. I wanted to include many elements of Kansas, including the sunflower (its state flower), wheat or corn, and the ever present windmills. I could also have thrown in some cows for good measure, but I thought there was plenty going on already.
This is an Alcarin standing in a field of tall grass (could be wheat I suppose), gazing out upon his farm or ranch with a meadowlark perched on his walking stick. His wings are spread to catch the warming rays of the sun. Behind him, an old wooden windmill stands guard over a field of crops.
